Batman probably assumed Bane was attacked as a child and needed the mask prior to jumping out of the pit.
This and also the "born in darkness didn't see the light until I was already a man" could easily be taken as allegory.
I really hope the next Batman interpretation is one that showecases the hyper paranoid, always prepared, brilliant detective that is so loved in the comics.

Bane didn't make the jump. It was Talia that made the jump as a child. Bane protected her when she was in the pit. Her mom kept her hair short so everyone thought she was a boy.
This.

So a boy escaped and Bruce is like, that must be Bane. Uh, what? everyone told you he was attacked. So unless they said he came back, then that ain't him. What made him think that Bane's story fits both of those scenarios?
Well first, bane fits the description by being born into the darkness.
Second, Bane getting attacked doesn't stop him from being able to escape in the story told to bruce.
Third, you're harping on 1 sentence stated to batman for dramatic effect from bane while batman was in the process of having his body destroyed.

Oh well, it gets harder to take this movie seriously

Yeah, I think the Batman from most iterations would have figured out who Talia was and certainly forced her to come with him when he took Fox in order to interrogate her. Then they could evacuate the city overnight.

TKDR was not a worthy finish IMHO

One thing I couldn't believe is why Batman and Gordon were so cocky that Bane wouldn't have given the trigger to another person. If I were them, I'd probably be thinking that Bane likely made two triggers, one for himself and one for another person who came into Gotham much earlier and was part of the orchestration of all this. They knew for a fact on when the bomb was going off, so it wouldn't be a detriment to his plan if the "random citizen" just happened to press the trigger.

I didn't think the story early in the movie said Bane was the one who was beaten. They simply said the child had a protector.
Bruce probably doubtful of Bane and feel he was being deceptive.
He had no reason to doubt the prisoners who were assisting him, and they told BW that only ONE person had ever made the jump. Therefore, BW assumed "the protector" never made it out of the prison. And since Bane is clearly not in the prison, he had to have been the ONE person to make it out
