The one guy Seattle is willing to pay for. I guess he puts butts in seats.

that is a ridiculous amount of money for a pitcher...spent by a team that doesn't care about winning

He must not either. Or he just likes being the big fish in a little pond.

No joke. It's a shame he's just going to waste away in Seattle.

I think he feels some sense of loyalty to the Ms. I have no idea why.

Will this finally stop Cashman from calling every fricking day?

I don't think the Mariners don't care about winning but they just haven't been very good at it. They had a $100M payroll a few years ago under the previous management which acquired an abortion of a roster. They've built a very good system since then and have a low payroll, Felix's deal won't prevent them from spending in the future. They have been active in pursuing almost every available hitter the past two years.

Well that's half their payroll for the next 7 years.

if you're the yankees, red sox, phillies, or dodgers, who can afford to throw that kind of money around, sure
seattle is committing like 25 mil/year on a guy who will play every 5th day.
are they going to start having a 200 mil payroll now?? no

Wonder how his numbers will look since they brought the fences in as well... it could see a bit of an uptick in his ERA

But as of Sunday afternoon, sources say, the Mariners and Hernandez are not close to finishing an extension, because there are issues that the two sides are sorting through.
The elbow issue is perceived by at least one of the parties in the deal as being a possible impediment to the completion of the new contract.
"It's an issue," said one source.
