You're going to see it at what, 20 yards maybe? So you have maybe 3 seconds to draw & get off a shot.
If i can't see him within 20 yards then it must have trees there. In this case even my old arse can run around a tree till i get my gun out.

1+ re: 41 Mag. Not sure how I forgot about it. If it were me, I'd just get a 44 Mag Redhawk w/ 5" barrel and start practicing......OTOH, I've already got one.

that was 1750fps and 700lbs with a stock G20 barrel.
WOW! But, I don't think that can be done w/ SAAMI spec pressure loads in a handgun barrel. Even though Buffalo Bore loads are pretty hot, the max velocity they could get w/ a 155 gr bullet in 5" barrel was 1450 fps.

Maybe you were thinking of the 10mm Magnum?

I was surprised to see that they can get pretty close ...

I'm a huge fan of the .41 rem mag. I wish it would be more popular.
I was looking for a .41 when I came across a deal I couldn't pass up on my .357
The .41 just makes so much sense to me.

Are you familiar with the .41 Special? Some guys are having old model Single Sixes converted.

.41 Mag trimmed down to .44 Special length. Typical .41 Special loads consist of a 170 to 215 grain projectile traveling out of the muzzle from about 900 fps up to 1,200 fps.
It is a true cult cartridge with the custom revolver guys.

I'm surprised they can get that many fps, but that's using a light 135 gr bullet. Their 150 gr bullet load gets 1475 fps, about what the Buffalo Bore load gets w/ a 155 gr bullet. Since the 135 gr bullet is for low penetration, I don't think that would be my load of choice for hogs. Still, that's a lot of fps.

Supposedly it just blows apart and becomes two bullets once it enters, or that's what I read

That might be ok for self defense against people (assuming the seperate fragments penetrate deep enough), but I wouldn't want to depend on that type of fragmenting bullet when one is preparing for hogs.

I bring 180gr with me in the woods, but can't remember seeing a good comparison of the different loads/weights for a 10mm. It isn't as popular a round as the others, so there aren't many gelatin or simulated pig shots to compare everything with. Most of it is just a bunch of jack-leg tards saying a bunch of whatever the hell they want
This is what I was thinking of

Also, someone needs to go back in time and tell my dad and his brothers that they were doing it wrong when they were running hogs (catching, marking, killing, etc) and using nothing more than a single shot .22 cause they didn't want to mess up their nice guns dealing with hogs.
Ive seen people do it with a knife. Doesnt mean I would recommend that to anyone.
OP you need to go down to the range and shoot a few different models. Find the one that fits you not the one thats the biggest or prettiest or most expensive but the one that will work you for the situations you described. 10mm have been known to kill polar bears and .357's have been known to crack engine blocks but none of that means a damn if you cant hit what you aim at.

Seen my pow pow kill many hogs for butchering with a 22lr single shot. Only one that needed two was a 600 lbs sow. And we never let them get that big again for butchering.
