The Missing Piece

A continuing series from 247 covers who the Hornets are likely to target in Trades, the Draft or Free Agency. This is a mid season update of all the usual suspects like Brandon Jennings, Iggy, Budinger, etc, how they'd fit and what it'd likely take to acquire them LINK /

Chris Paul, Point Guard Los Angeles Clippers (Age: 27)
Contract Status: Unrestricted FA in ’13 | Max Hornets Can Offer: 4 years/$77 million | Expected Cost: 5 years/$100 million
While I will admit that the evidence seems to be piling up more and more everyday that CP3 will stay in LA, I will not give up on this dream until the ink is dry on his new contract. Here is my scenario. The Clippers fall in the first round or get demolished again in the second round, both real possibilities. Paul looks around and sees a young core in LA that is not improving and an old supporting cast whose best days are behind them. He then looks to New Orleans who has Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson, and Eric Gordon as a core and thinks- “Which is a better supporting cast, those three or Griffin, Jordan, and Bledsoe?”
Is there really any comparison? Then maybe he gets a peak at the sweet new Pelican jerseys coming out this summer, the fierceness in the eyes of the logo, and he remembers the city he fell in love with years ago. He sits down with two guys he respects greatly in Dell Demps and Monty Williams and they sell him on a future built not with playoff appearances, but championships, in New Orleans. They ask him to look aorund the league and see what other teams can give him the money he wants while maintaining a young core capable of a championship run. He looks around and can’t find another team that meets both criteria, so he puts his name on the dotted line.
Is it really that far fetched?

I dont think Demps and Monty will place all faith in aminu at 3, even though he is playing well. Iggy, depending on the price would be a great fit with aminu. I also dont see them wanting to lose progress with gravy. They will only bring in a quality or equal backup.
These speculations are all based on the season continuing like it is.

Great read
I would like either chandler or brewer,If we re sign aminu we can rotate both guys.

Isn't that how much Drew got?!?!?

I can see Aminu commanding a contract more than he is worth if he keeps playing well.
A guy I have been keeping tabs on for a possible trade scenario is MarShon Brooks. He had a pretty impressive rookie year but is only getting 11MPG this season with the Nets. Perhaps they look to shore up other positions by trading Brooks. He played 39% of his teams minutes at SG and 22% of his teams minutes at SF last season. He's cheap and we would control him until 2015.

I just want to know why Davis is sucking Gordon off in that picture
And Anderson with a look of horror on his face

Two names on that list that are really intriguing: Wilson Chandler and Kyle Lowry
Perfect fits.
Wanted them both for a long time. Glad Lowry is getting some love for his on-ball defense, too. Dude is a bulldog on the perimeter.
Amir Johnson is also someone I would love to see in a Pelicans jersey next year.

My quick opinion on most of the options listed:
Jennings does not excite me. I like Greivis more than most.
I think that's giving up a lot for Bledsoe. Do not want.
Brewer could be a very good pickup at the right price.
Do not want Rudy Gay's contract.
That's a lot of money for Iggy! He's probably towards the end of his prime.
Milsap doesn't make much sense as we're currently constructed.
Budinger is another nice fit if he's healthy.
Granger is unlikely and if we end up with Brian Roberts and Rivers at PG, we fuk'd. I think their hypothetical involves too many moving pieces.
Lowry is a nice player, but I think he's a marginal upgrade over Vasquez (if that). I just think making moves for the sake of making moves destroys chemistry and can result in "2 steps back." Greivis is just as young, so it's not like age is a factor.
If we could get Chandler for a second rounder, I'd masturbate. Plain and simple
None of their draft prospects upset me, but it's way too early to think about that. Players improve a lot in a season of college and our draft slot is quite large right now.
Pekovic....hmmm
Chrissy Poo.....I could definitely forgive the guy in the right situation...

This made me literally laugh out loud

In fact, Corey Brewer has hit three times as many three’s this year (57) than Aminu has hit total shots outside of the paint (18).

I think Greivis fits well with Gordon, so it doesn't behoove us to overspend for another PG. Jennings, in particular, also has a tendency to shoot too much. He's not a very efficient shooter, either. Gravy shoots higher from the field and from 3. Gravy's Ast/TO is a lot higher. He's a better rebounder. It makes very little sense to me to bring in a new player not known as a leader to replace a captain and leader who makes 1/3 as much.

Not a Jennings fan, Chandler would be a perfect fit. I would fap

Gotcha.
Man after reading that piece I'm firmly on the draft a PG and sign Chandler bus. If we could get him for only a second rounder? Seriously? Ours should be high enough to be sweet...

On the "other PGs I've upset others by not coveting over Vasquez" front, Steph Curry left the game with a sprained ankle....
Posted on 1/28/13 at 8:52 pm to BrowDown
FWIW about Chandler, he's averaging 5.0 rebounds per only 18 minutes, that ain't anything to sneeze at.

Iggy's gonna be playing in old timer 76ers games with Iverson years from now and Pelicans fans are gonna still be fighting over whether not we should bring him in for defensive purposes.
I feel like he's been a Hornets "target" since 2006. I think the garbage season he's having this year should end any debates about whether or not we should actually pay him big money to come here
