just a matter of time
I'm sure they will change college and high school football first then go after the NFL.

Roll your eyes all you want but it's either this or no football period. It's damaging people's brains.

I wonder what makes it different now than 30 years ago? Why are there less injuries in Rugby?

I played rugby at LSU for a little bit and j played high school football. The collisions in football were harder. I can imagine the force an NFL or college LB hits with. Rugby players don't have helmets so they can't hit the same way either. There's no leading with the head. Football helmets and pads allow for harder collisions.

Did it just start injuring people's brains? Should boxing, MMA, and all other combat sports be banned? How about racing? People want to see violence/big hits/big wrecks. It's hard wired into our DNA.

Can't speak for everyone ... but, I tend to protect my head better if I'm not wearing a helmet or a hard-hat.

Racers wear helmets and harnesses, boxers hit each other with padded gloves. I'm sure there have been concussions in football a long time but were not diagnosed. You know how it goes with medical advances.

I believe football, right now, is safer than it's ever been. The players suing the league now played in a time where concussion tests and other studies just weren't prevalent. The equipment is better now, it's just up to the coaches knowing how to properly teach their players how to hit.

Last I checked no one was mandated to play

Players keep getting stronger and faster and although helmets are better now the architecture of the brain is not changing and no matter the helmet the brain will bounce around inside the skull.
That said, I agree no one is forced to play and don't want to see major changes beyond equipment improvements.

And see that's what I don't get. People are getting their panties in a bind over football and it's violent nature, but people willingly do more harmful shite to themselves on a daily basis. Smoking for instance. The government needs to stay the frick out of sports.

I really wish this would have stayed on the political page because now I'm going to have to vent:
Maybe my head has been in the sand, but I haven't read one story about a guy who has only played college football having this issue.
This guy is the biggest fricking fraud alive, and still can't believe people were stupid enough to re-elect his dumb arse.

well, the thing is, you have dumb asses electing dumb asses. The GOP should bring better players to the game, and we wouldn't have to worry about this frick bitch being our president.

Can't argue with that....

I'm pretty sure Junior Seau would like to say Hello.
any device or measures that can make the game safer and mitigate the long term damage for the "kids" and those who make the game a career is a step in the right direction. if the defense was mandated to "form tackle" much of the injuries, on both sides of the ball, could be reduced.
get better.
