Agree or disagree with Steve Carrell on returning as Michael Scott?

It seems like they would give you an update on him....even if he isnt in the show.

As a huge Michael Scott fan, knowing he won't return makes me less interested in this season instantly. I was looking forward to seeing how he'd come back for his cameo. Now its just not going to be fulfilling. Sad to say it, but the real show ended when Michael went to Colorado.
Having said that, Carell doesn't owe the show to come back.

Thats a pretty weak answer. Michaels character did not grow. He was the same idiot on the last episode that he was on the first. Sounds like he just didnt want to do it. Which is fine.

he's a bitch for not doing it.

He could've done it. Kinda disappointed that he won't be returning.

Several episodes before Michael left it was clear they were showing the audience that Michael had in fact grown up. The Threat Level Midnight and Todd Packer episodes were perfect examples of this.

I'm not counting him out entirely yet. I still think there's a good chance he makes a cameo in one of the final episodes, but he won't have an arc and it won't be a big part of the episode.
If people knew he was coming back, they would expect the old Michael Scott to return and be the center of the show, but if that didn't happen, people would be disappointed instead of just appreciative he made a final appearance. Now, with no expectation of him returning, people will be thrilled just to see him on the screen. Managing expectations.

I never wanted Michael to return as part of any story, I always imagined that Michael would return just to visit his friends, with Holly at his side, and introducing a son or daughter. Longtime fans of the show know that this is something Michael has always wanted and talked about a lot. While I am sure he got all of that, I just was just hoping to actually see it.

yeah I don't think he owes the shite, but it was the character that vaulted the show and his career, he should be there for the end.

I thought they missed the best opportunity to reintroduce him when David Wallace was buying Dunder Mifflin. They could've referenced Michael being an investor which would open the door for him to make a cameo in any number of ways. Obviously he couldn't be a huge investor because we all know that he sucks with money, so he wouldn't be necessary to any storlyine. But they could've opened it up where David let Michael $5,000 or something, if just for a symbolic ownership. I think it would've been a huge triumph for a character who had given so much of his life to this business to then be an owner of it.

Why would he return?
Now, maybe if they did a reunion show where the entire staff goes to the premier of the documentary, that would be a reason for him to come back. However, just because the filming of the doc is wrapping up is not a reason for him to return.

I have no idea what Carrell is talking about. "The character" like Michael Scott is Michael Corleone.

So, Michael Scott is not a character?

lol I just mean the way he talks about "the evolution of the character" like it's really deep. It's a silly sitcom.

I think that's what they're doing. Clooney said publically he wouldn't come back for the ER finale, but he ended up making a nice cameo.
