I'd like to say it's shocking that you can have a former player as respected and loved as Chad Jones say this place would have been bad for him to have read while still playing at LSU and have the thread go 7+ pages of people rationalizing their shitty behavior... But it isn't, which is sort of his point.

You can't have high fan interest without being under a microscope. It's like the Hollywood actor-millionaires complaining about the paparazzi. These players always have the option to play at a school where there is very little interest.

Yep, that's the only problem with LSU fans...too much interest.
:sigh:

Well recruits should go to Iowa or Arkansas where they really don't care about winning.

for the record...there are some young recruits ( potentials and possibles) that visit this site!!! i can say this, some of them have read the comments that some of you guys have written and they were in fact taken back by the comments...some of them feel like your comments are a reflection of LSU's program...
Look man..
This has been discussed to ad nauseam..ANYONE can read ANYTHING online and get offended..Hell, I could probably dig up some old AOL IM's about me back in high school that I would find offensive. What does it matter that they are football players, or "stars"? People talk about popular people, and not always in the nicest way. It's life, and it's the internet. Not saying I support talking about our players, but it's just the nature of the beast. If these guys can't handle people talking about them and just block out the bullshite like an adult, then i feel for them. There's no use in trying to police these boards for things said about recruits/players. It's a lost cause and it would make TD a shitty place if we couldn't speak our minds about players(whether what we said was intelligent and well thought out or completely asinine and borderline mentally retarded). Get my drift?

I get his point, but I have to disagree. Chad Jones is the kind of guy who would get major props here. The Rant can be harsh, but is generally fair to a guy who works hard and produces. A few outliers might have criticized him, but his self-esteem would not take a hit here.
But thars just it. Would just take one day reading the board while he was a student and i bet at least one person was bashing him or calling him a bust. Hes one of the more loved tigers, but every player has their share of fans that turn on them.
Claiborne is a prime example. Did nothing wrong, yet when his wonderlic scores came out some so called fans just bashed the guy and called him illiterate.

some moron 6 post up told him to give up football and move to baseball
like him trying football is a bad thing or "can't be done with his injuries"
That's still a couple of orders of magnitude less than the vitriol spewed at (for example) JJ.

i truly hope the tigah leaders on the team lead the new recruits to never read the rant.
or, explain how many alcoholics post their own miserable low self esteem directed at some young college football player.

Yeah, it would be hell not to have clowns who couldn't carry ANY LSU players jock on the field not be allowed to crap on them while they hide like little girls behind fake names.

You will always have people who speak their minds about players. Obviously some shite is over the line, but it's not the mods' jobs to read every damn line about every damn player in LSU history in hopes that every damn said player won't get offended
Like i said, if a player gets offended at something said on the internet, i feel for them. And it doesn't have to be just tigerdroppings..it can be via facebook, twitter, etc.. People will talk about other people because they have nothing better to do. That's life

And if you want to pilot the "donttalkaboutlsuplayers" police force, and the mods get behind it..i'm all for it.
You're missing my point. I would hope that nobody talks or says stupid shite about our players. But people WILL say things or have opinions that are not popular, and what can ya do? Ban them because it wasn't a nice thing to say? I can understand banning someone if they spread rumors or say something completely unfounded, but come on. It's the internet.
Posted on 1/21/13 at 6:02 pm to 228Tiger
228 is right. People are stupid and they're going to say stupid stuff about players, whether it be here, FB, twitter, whatever. You can't moderate that and if you did, TD would be the worse because of it. Players at this level, to get where they are, have to have a massive amount of self-confidence. If they're going to let a bunch of whiny internet posters ruin their lives, then they didn't have much self esteem to begin with. Also, many would use it as fuel, a la Tebow, and become better because of it.

Why is it called Tiger Rant if you're not supposed to rant?
Nothing wrong with ranting, but it can be done without personal attacks on players and coaches. Several posters on here cross that line with regularity.

I can't remember any threads being negative about chad Jones. I think he is off point on this comment.
This fan base is no different than any other top program in the country. Players get called out, as do coaches, coordinators and such but I think that changes a bit once it gets to the top of the pack like LSU.
People can say "its kids, amateur sports", and such but overall they come here for one thing only and that's a springboard to the NFL.
Programs like Alabama, lsu, Florida, are all ran like businesses. These kids are part of the machine and should have thicker skin than that.
A couple of guys talking shite on a message board being able to ruin Chad Jones esteem? I can't honestly see that. He has got to be stronger willed than that

Chad Jones will never make a roster. He was a great player, but his injuries were so bad he can forget football. Maybe baseball. That's where he should focus.
Never say never.

His injuries looked horrible but I wish him all the luck in the world making an NFL squad...Still remember his first pick as a freshman vs. Kentucky

Players get called out
Grown men calling out 18-21 year olds because LSU only won 10 games this year, 23 games in the last two years, and 34 games in the last three years are clueless idiots.
You seem more interested in protecting the clueless idiots than the guys winning all the games for you.
