any other state I can use an example on?
New Jersey. They put out more talent than most people realize, and not a lot of it goes to Rutgers.

So:
LSU gets 55/90 - 61% SUCCESS RATE
Georgia gets 31/90 - 34% SUCCESS RATE
Ohio State gets 33/90 - 37% SUCCESS RATE

I could.. but its mainly about schools that are locking up most of their talent..not losing.

I suspect when you pool Florida/FSU in Florida and Texas/Texas A&M in Texas their cumulative success will be similar to LSU's in Louisiana.
Ohio is a good one to mention FWIW - Ohio is a talent rich state with one major school that dominates their media. It is a fair comparison for LSU in several ways IMO

Ohio is the best example because their RIVAL michigan takes players from there every year along with ND....id so comparitively speaking, lsu has louisiana on lockdown

Yep
With Louisiana surrounded by A&M, Auburn, Alabama, and Texas, which are all good recruiting schools, its amazing what Les...and what Saban accomplished.

UGA never seems to be able to reel in the majority of top players in their state for some reason.

Very useful and informative posts. Good work
A few years back, I did something similar with Alabama and Auburn, and I think Combined their rates were a bit higher than LSU's.

I guess doing states and using their combined percentage wouldn't be a bad idea.
Clemson and South Carolina
Michigan and Michigan State
Oregon and Oregon State
Ole Miss and Miss State

Oregon and Oregon State
Ole Miss and Miss State

Vermillion, thanks for the information. Finally someone using stats/facts, instead of their retarded opinions.

It's a very migrant state. While I agree with the op's premise -- that Les is doing/does a great job of getting the state's top players -- the comparison to UGa/Georgia isn't apples to apples. Especially when it's just a top 15 across the board.
LSU, imo, is in very unique recruiting situation, with regards to recruiting in the state of LA.

I think USC/Clemson and Ole Miss/MSU are somewhat relevant
There's not enough grade A talent in Michigan and Oregon to really compare fairly to LSU's situation.
Florida/FSU
Texas/Texas A&M
Alabama/Auburn
MSU/Ole Miss
UGA/Ga Tech
USC/Clemson
Va Tech/Virginia
would be interesting since there's plenty of talent in those states (the top 15 is relevant)
Single States (talent rich states with only one major program) to compare directly to LSU are harder to find really
Louisiana - LSU
Ohio - tOSU
are fairly similar comparisons
Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Minnesota, Connecticut etc are less relevant because even tho there is only one major college football program in the state there are not really the same numbers of outstanding college football prospects most years

What service are you using?
Posted on 1/17/13 at 6:10 pm to VermilionTiger
Atlanta has more people than the entire state of LA. Georgia is also home to only 2 d1 programs. One is in the sec and the other has academic restrictions and doesnt lure recruits in like it used to.
UGA and Mark Richt are annual underachievers.
Louisiana also gets bum rushed by every major program and for years LSU has had to fight off the big guys. Not every coach was able to do this.

[quote]Louisiana top 15 2009:
LSU - 8
Alabama - 3
Tennessee - 1
Arkansas - 1
A&M - 2
Interesting breakdown but these numbers don't tell the whole story. Consider, for example, that Morris Claiborne (one of the two best players in the state, as it turned out, along with Rueben Randle) was not in the Top 15. He was a three star. I'm sure the same is true for Tyrann Mathieu.
The point is that coaching staff evaluations are the key, not the rivals.com Top 15.
