re: Deadspin: Manti Te'o Dead Girlfriend Story a Hoax (now with drug dealers!)

Common sense tells me Te'o was duped into an online relationship, the media ran wild with the death, Te'o didn't stop it because he believed she existed and had a connection, then he found he was completed duped and never existed, then he was too embarrassed to publicly admit he had been fooled, which is completely understandable considering how much press it have been given.
That's much more logical than Te'o and the hoaxer concocting this whole story so Te'o could get more attention to win the Heisman (after 2 games into the season). He already had tons of attention. I think you need tin foil hats to believe that scenario or you would just really want that to be the scenario, but it is pretty unlikely.

wait hold the frick on....
ESPN serious?
They are reporting this from a conversation this "female" had with Tuisapasio in December?

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man who has been publicly identified as being behind the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax, called a church friend in early December crying and admitted to duping the Heisman finalist, the friend told Outside the Lines Thursday.

it sounds like common sense is not your forte

Someone telling me they believe teo was "catfished" is like someone telling me they're a scientilogist. I just walk away.
Just sticking my head in again, and reading comments like this.
You guys on the side of Te'o 'concocted the whole thing' are sticking to that WAY too hard.
There is at least, AT LEAST, a 50 percent chance he was somewhat catfished and exaggerated the relationship greatly before he knew she was fake to either attract media attention or stave off the perceived humiliation of having an online girlfriend (or likely, both).
It still makes him a liar/deceiver/embellisher. It just makes his motives seem less sinister.
To me, that idea makes the most rational sense.
For him to have concocted a scheme like this would make him, literally, the most irrational, fame hungry, devious, and stupid schemer of all time.
This can't be so cut and dry. There's a little bit of everything here.
If it comes out that this theory is near the truth, that Te'o was partially duped, partially dishonest, you guys like Fox and Bateman need to come eat serious crow, because you're so strongly supporting the "Te'o as plotter" theory that it's coming off as arrogant.
If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit I was. I just think it's likelier he's been somewhat deceived, somewhat deceptive.

I smell cover up. They tell him to STFU and lay low for a while and leak out some information that it was 100 percent him and Te'o didn't know anything.
I want HIM to come forward. Where is this guy? Why has a camera failed to catch this man outside of his house buying groceries or something?

this is so bullshite it's hilarious. ESPN is in full CYA for ND, their darling boy Te'o, and themselves.
This is just insane bullshite hearsay.

I don't think Te'o concocted this elaborate scheme but I think he lied about MANY of the details concerning his "relationship". I mean...that's obvious if you are to believe the South Bend article from back in October.

his agency would be retarded to do so.
1 If it's off the books then it cannot be binding without producing the document.
2. If he rejects said offer, when he does come clean he would surely mention that teo's agency tried to buy him off and make them look incredibly stupid

Basically, Tuiosospo (IMO Te'os lover) is now gonna take the fall and try to say that he duped him the whole time....Te'o obviously has way more to lose, so the best thing for them to do is for Tuioso to fall on the sword......There will still be a ton of holes in the story. but I think this is their new strategy
Just my opinion

As I believe jimithing pointed out last page, ESPN will run with this, but not the story itself............

I'm telling you Tom Condon and his team are running the show now...Manti is holed up at their HQ doing "media training for the draft"...he has already gotten to all of the co-conspirators and money is being exchanged adn scripts are being handed out to all of the parties to make sure their stories jive... this one is too easy

None of this makes sense. Having worked in media, this is what is supposed to be SOP. News producer at ESPN hears of this story, gets initial info from ND SID. He/she then assembles his crew, telling one, get me B-roll of Stanford U from their SID, any footage of her playing her sport, get a hold of their registrar, find out which classes she attended find/pay a classmate, teammate, roommate, to give us background. Turns to the second one, get B-roll and footage of hospital and attending doctors and nurses. Third one, look up CA Dept of Corps and find out address of where her family business is so we can get even more B-roll. Fourth guy, find out what you can of her working with kids in New Zealand, after all, Manti said that she worked with them in that country.
Within hours, not days, not weeks, every one of these people would have come back and said, "Big Boss Man, we can find nothing, zilch, nada, of this woman." News producer would have then contacted ND SID and said that there must be a misunderstanding, talk to Manti again just to make sure we have the facts straight.
That is what always happens, that is why it's called SOP, because that is what you always do. If SOP had been followed, none of this would have occurred. Obviously, SOP wasn't followed, that is why this occurred. The fault for all this lies with ESPN/NBC/ND. They are supposed to be the gatekeepers to keep lies from going out over THEIR audio/video frequencies and under the ND brand. Otherwise, what they're attempting to say is that a couple of 22 yo's with no money or resources, but some twitter accounts, were able to dupe some of the biggest media conglomerates in the world. If so, then those idiots have no business being in business. But they're not idiots, so they knew exactly what was going on.
