re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

I had an LHSAA employee recently tell me point blank:
As soon as the privates split, him and a bunch of people with the LHSAA are going with the privates and taking all the best officials and admins with them. So what would be left is the admins and officials the private school association doesn't want or have loyalty to the public association.
He said it isn't even about refs and admins making more money, it is more about dealing with less stupid bullshite and cronyism
The current LHSAA and State Education athletics format recruits unprofessional people and doesn't require much oversight or training but expects professional behavior and results. That goes for coaches, players, admins and officials. Then the LHSAA gets carried away by focusing on manipulating state championship host sites and ignoring the real problems.
What the current public members want is a combined regular season and a separate playoffs. Why would the privates agree to that?

Well put. In a few articles that I've read that deal with the public schools complaining about recruiting, none of the schools that are attacked have ever been caught for recruiting. This is simply about public schools finding an easier way out, but that league will be begging for private schools to come back in a few years.

What it is really about is clouding the true mission of providing co-curricular activities:
Promoting Team work
Developing Personal Responsibility
Fostering School and community pride
Developing Physical and emotional maturity
and making the focus almost solely about perceived disparities in competitiveness and winning.

True as well. I worry about what this will do for LSU. I can't imagine that the system that has helped stock LSU with NFL talent year in and year out becoming different will be good for the flagship school

it's a shame pussy North LA 2A public schools want to break up a good organization
then again private schools might want to split too so they don't have to play crap like us

I know you are being slightly facetious but the issue is the system which is relatively good is trying to be broken up for what is "fair". There is no such things as fair, and when public schools play each other exclusively there will be schools like WM and Barbe who will be demonized by the guys who can't put it together like they do. It's all about appeasing the lowest common denominator. This is why public schools are bad in this state. When the standards are lowered so low then everyone is a winner. If anything, they should be combining divisions and making competition harder.

What about the big bad 5a and 4a schools that crammed ECA and JC down their throats?
Thats where the problems really started up....and festered....
As for the effect of football
Since tennesee split how many years has Ut football been relevant
Owl....if JC and ECA were in 4 or 5a this would be an issue...
But it looks like the time to pay the piper has come for those thtat started the lay in class rule-
Catholic only wanted play up when it benefitted them post Katrina....
Play up one class is BS because then it puts 6 classes voting against one..
You want to call someone a pussy - you don't need to look to north la....
Supatigah. Those selects schools have a lot of disdain for some of those folks. I wouldn't be so sure too many of em would end up with the new assoc.
I know 4-5 people that have gotten out of officiating that would get back in...
And the word now is that some non select schools would bolt
Posted on 1/20/13 at 1:27 pm to GhostofJackson
and besides the select division will still have schools with no business playing John Curtis...

To be honest, I think state associations will be a thing of the past within the next few decades anyway, except for public schools. I look at schools like Eastern Christian Academy starting a new trend, and can see regional, perhaps even national based associations which will draw a lot of attention and money. Look at the NCAA conferences scrambling to take over whole regions and the money it brings with it. How long do you think it will take to trickle to high schools? If you are worried about private schools having an advantage now, wait till high school games are routinely nationally televised and watching Evangel, Curtis, Rummel, and Calvary each week on ESPN 3 will be normal. Those schools will certainly have the advantage because the state association wasn't willing to do what it needed to do to keep itself together.

MF this. The cowards in 5A and 4A (publics and the Catholic League) didn't want their arses beat by Curtis and ECA like the old days.

Rummell has one state title and Calvary none, let's not put them at elite status yet......
The problem is that the lhsaa has not evenly enforced rules and meted out punishment. Easily gets redirected by principals worried only about their parochial interests....and they don't have the resource or power to investigate the most egregious of offenses...
A few years back they changed the hold back rule- all parents did was just start holding back earlier....
If mr X is paying tuition formula y tom go to school z there is now way the lhsaa can dig deepmenough to prove it...
They have rules but can't enforce them

Where were you on Friday?
And to Ghost, I don't think state asso will go away because of travel cost.

the national-type leagues won't really work... putting football teams on planes is expensive when you charge $10 a game, 500 people show up, few or none of the players actually pay tuition, the school is class 1A sized without the football players, and people aren't watching anyway
that being said, John Curtis could maybe make it work, but no one else would and they get all the best players anyway, so what else would change?

i kind of thought we'd lose, but i almost kicked myself when i saw an update that we were down by 8 at halftime and 10 going into the 4th... play a good 8 minutes and who knows?
but we didn't (29-15 BM) and i was vindicated.

JV and 9th went into OT. If you would have shown early, you would have gotten your money's worth.
Posted on 1/20/13 at 2:12 pm to choupiquesushi
There will be a mad dash by select/magnet/charter/academy type schools to stay with the privates. Which will create all sorts of headaches for local school boards. What do they do if a "public" school wants to go with the privates and the private assn. admits them but the privates don't want any other school in that school board's jurisdiction?
Posted on 1/20/13 at 2:13 pm to lsu31always
except JV and 9th don't count except to the kids who play
besides the same kids who play each other to OT on JV get to varsity, and i bet if they play (in non-district) in two years, that BM still wins easily

Bingo. A certain cath league principal was a driving force for this ESP when to appease 4a curtis was looking at 5a for football only
Then along came katrina and juggled everyones numbers...
It was an easy vote Nola 4a schools wanted HC SA and shaw out of their hair......and the Nola 5a schools wanted catholic league teams back in their own district
And 2a well they wanted those two gone 3a the class affected the most was helpless to defend against it.
The lhsaa knew this day was coming....they should have dealt with it a long time ago

So do you really think its fair that teams like PBS and Notre Dame can take in kids that do not even reside in the same parish as that the school is located? That's is not a level playing field. By the way these private schools are not going to pull out of the LHSAA because they do not have the resources to start their own organization. Most are doing enough to keep their heads above water.
