I was looking at our game log and it's weird just how mediocre our defense was in the second half. Also, the offense completely changed from the first half to the second. Early in the season (and yes, I'm throwing out Towson and North Texas), LSU was rushing for almost 200 yards a game except for the Florida debacle while throwing for about 150. In the second half, we were throwing for about 250 and rushing for just over 100 (except the Clemson debacle).

I'm not as concerned about defensive defections because it looks like they had already checked out in the second half of the year. And the offense was transitioning to a passing offense. Though I think we should go back to some power running, which is our identity. We got away from who we are.

Anyway, I'm concerned about the d-line and the receiving corps, but if we can find new contributors, we will improve. If we do not, we won't. Insightful, I know. But it comes down to those two units, IMO.

I've been saying this all along, I don't see a down year coming at all. Our D under preformed last year due to a lot of factors in my opinion, many of which won't be issues moving forward. Here's my feeling on each unit:

DL-I like Freak and Ego in the middle. I also think Hunter and Rasco are All-SEC type ends by the time they leave, just a matter of how soon they get there. Are loses are substantial here, but we haven't had a bad DL since 08, I expect 13' to be no different. You could also argue the 3 Jrs leaving all had down years.

LB-Losing Minter hurts, he was everywhere. BUT every other spot on our two deep is going to get better. That's an upgrade at 5 of 6 spots. As a unit overall, we'll be better then in 2012.

DB-Reid was as talented as any S to play at LSU, but he took a lot of bad angles and didn't have a great year overall. Neither did Simon. Loston seemed to get better and better as the year went on and he's coming back. Martin was great in coverage in spot work and I think will continue that as the year goes on. The Jalen's will only get stronger as the year goes on. Like the LBs, losing our leader in the DBs (Reid) hurts, the unit as a whole will be better in coverage.

Our offense is almost entirely intact, and whether you like the coaching or not, the coaching will not get worse. The unit can only improve and I think it will.

ST will be fine, as usual.

10-2 is my prediction with a chance at 11-1 and a shot at the West. From there, who knows......

..2014, even with a new qb, I think we're going to be poised again for a great run.

Not sure I'm willing to give up my negatiger status just yet. Perhaps a nice promotion to admin of Lakers threads or the activation of :alexlsu: will change my tune...

reading a thread on the MSB had a Chris Low quote about internal leadership being a issue in 2012, which frankly isn't a surprise, and he states it'll be corrected by next season

You lose 8 would-be SR & chances are the leadership does not improve.

I agree it was a problem this year. But the best candidates to be our Sr leaders are leaving.

I have zero faith in this offensive coaching staff, it's been going on since 2009. Same ole offense every year 90th pass offense should never happen to lsu never.

not sure why everyone is worried. Depth chart looks pretty good. Schedule is tough but talent is there to get us to Pasadena...

Sorry Chicken, we will lose 3 to 4 games next year. Same offense...same result.

How do you do it Chicken. I have no doubt you could have won at least 2 NCs as coach since Miles has been here. The depth chart has never been a problem.

My favorite has to be the fans that think BCS national titles are just so easy to obtain that anyone can just do it.

If the Oline stays health this team has potential to go far. But, if we have similar problems as the '12 season and have to patch things up with Freshmen we'll have growing pains.

Biggest question mark in my mind is the interior Dline and if we'll have the ability to rotate linemen.

I believe it is certainly possible. I'll say the same thing I have said the past few years, it depends a lot on QB play. I think most of the other pieces have been there to win it all the past few years. We just haven't been able to put it all together due to the lack of a QB with skills, understanding, and leadership ability.
