"Look for Hornets to waive Dominic McGuire today. McGuire's contract woulda been guaranteed for rest of season if still on roster by Tuesday."
I'm not sure why it'd have to be today unless he has to clear waivers, etc. or it has to do with the regular-joe work week.

Ah.
"A 10-day contract is just that, a player contract which lasts ten days (or three games, whichever comes later). Teams may sign players to 10-day contracts starting January 5 each season. Teams cannot sign players to 10-day contracts that would extend past their last regular season game. In other words, after their 80th game (64th in 2011-12) or after the 10th day before their last regular season game (whichever comes first) teams can no longer sign 10-day contracts.
A team may sign a single player to two 10-day contracts in one season (they may or may not be consecutive). After the second 10-day contract, the team can only retain the player by signing him for the remainder of the season. A team can't have more 10-day contracts than they have players on their Inactive List."
So now we have Miller on the Inactive list, and can sign these guys, and this would leave a spot open if we utilized one of these at some point.
This could be it.
ETA: removed a 1 that appeared after the 5 in January 5 that made it look like January 51. Sorry.

The footnote: Or the first business day thereafter.

I thought the deadline was something like January 10th so must be about clearing waivers. But unless Demps has his eye on someone else the 10 day contracts become available once the January 10th deadline passes.

Per the team now:
"The New Orleans Hornets announced today that the team has waived forward Dominic McGuire.
The Hornets signed Dominic McGuire on December 16, 2012 as a free agent. Since his signing, McGuire has appeared in nine games and has averaged 2.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 16.0 minutes per game.
McGuire (6-9, 220) holds career averages of 2.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists in 340 games (83 starts).
The Hornets roster now stands at 13."

Strange. He seemed the most competent of all our SFs. Could handle the ball and defended well.
I hope that either a trade is looming or Monty is going back to Aminu getting the big minutes.

Could be that Miller is coming back. Could be 10-day thing. I hope for the 10-days.
Could be something else.
It's fun to speculate.

Miller is better than Aminu. If we're not trading for a SF before the deadline, I'd be happy to bring him back

Why would you hope that?

Also, there is no way they call Miller back up after sending him down less than 4 days ago, he hasn't even played a game yet. They likely knew that they were going to waive McGuire at this time back when they originally signed him, so I doubt they would bring Miller back in the fold with him just getting settled in in Iowa. Besides, he is better off getting big minutes in the d-leauge as opposed to averaging less than a minute in the NBA.

Monty on waiving Dominic McGuire today: "(Small forward is) a position where we want to have some flexibility to bring (new) guys in."
