I do think Mett will be a very good QB
Erratic coaching = erratic execution = erratic offense...
And what have we seen in 2012?

First of all, your post is not a discussion, as you've already made up your mind.
That said, look at plays like Copeland completely whiffing a block Monday night that got an easy sack. Or at all the dropped passes this season. And that's the easy stuff for fans to see. We don't know on many plays, where someone missed an assignment.
The offense is very rudimentary, there is no getting around that. It is predictable, painfully so at times. So there is a little of both, poor design and coaching as well as execution.
To me the bigger concern is player development, especially on the OL. Barksdale is the only OL from the last 8 years that was on an NFL roster this year, that's really telling about the talent up front.

My points were made towards the greater point of the meme.
quote:But if it is a problem that has been consistent for multiple groups of personnel, then it isn't the personnel. . .unless we are just recruiting idiots.

The problem is the shifting blame.
-Pick-6's
-Crowton
-JJ/Sacks
-QB play in general
-Over-committing to playing upperclassmen
-Execution
We should now understand these are symptoms of the problem.
Ultimately we have a problem with execution and predictability, that is all true. The GREATER issue is that we have displayed these problems consistently.
How do we fix the greater problem?
Replacing personnel HAS NOT WORKED. Knowing this we can surmise one fact:
The personnel is not the problem

Will they magically begin to develop talent going forward? Do they know how?
They should, it's the position that both know the most intimately.

I do think Mett will be a very good QB and improved a good bit over the year, but was still inconsistent (as well as the O-line play).
But as someone else said, he has cinder-block for feet. Absolutely no threat at running. One dimensional.

Roaad is spot on and many already understand this. It is frustrating when it seems every other team in the country has a much better offense. Every other school large or small has a better qb. I don't understand why and how Mett was sought after to save the offense. I have seen him play fair at best and is too slow. Why does our o line suck so bad? Towson state had a better line. Injuries have hurt us no doubt but our 2nd string should be able to block someone and should be better than a small programs 1st team. Our offense is a joke and I'm referring to the overall plan or lack there of not our players. I'm tired of LSU being the joke of the nation. It has reached a point offensively that our recruiting will start to drop off big time. I'm not a miles lover nor am I screaming for his removal. I lean toward bring in a big name oc, db coach replacement, o line coach, and someone that scout a qb. This is getting lengthy but while we're at it let's have a real qb competition. Last wish.....we need some big physical receivers. Attack away

When your offense is predictable, plays get sniffed out. Oftentimes this gets erroneously dismissed as faulty execution.
Yep. When your scheme does not give you an advantage or attempt to get the defense on the wrong foot, any slight mistake will be glaring. Has been a problem for a while.

Blaming anyone other than the architects is just ludicrous.

Like I have said several times before, you don't think the defensive coordinators playing against the Vikings know that they are going to get a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson? How is that working out for them? Execution almost always beats scheme.

The offense seems to be designed for Forrest Gump type player. Simple minded. We must have alot of Gumps on our offense which limits the complexity of the offense. We need to recruit more Lieutenant Dans and fewer Bubbas and Gumps and then we can expand our offensive complexity.
Gump excelled at Alabama but they were a little more diverse.

how can we NOT say that it is CLEARLY a coaching issue?
Does it matter if we call it lack of execution? Lack of execution is a coaching issue.

This. Our OL has lacked quality depth, which translates to having to play with injuries and having trouble in the 4th qter. It has made QBs look worse than they really are, and RBs getting stuffed late in the games. Execution of any offense starts with the OL. A while back we had poor evals on the OL and had transfers which hurt. Now we are having too many injuries, and our young replacements show promise, but inconsistency. Talent and depth are coming.

That was a good article but I still think the scheme is way too simplistic, especially in the passing game. Way too often we have all short routes, all deep routes, or even the one man route. The routes dont complement each other and get very repetitive.
As far as playcalling as he touched on, long we have bitched about what is our identity because it seems to vary from game to game and at times series to series. And as also touched on in there, call plays that help guard against your weaknesses. OL getting killed? Run more screens and draws to keep DL honest. Don't call 7 step PA drops. Have a RB that is gashing the other team? Keep going to him. Don't have him disappear in the 4th when you need him most.
The main point of that article is correct - it's not rocket science. However we have been so inept for so long now and not doing the most simple of things on offense that we certainly give the perception that it is, in fact, rocket science.
