its the same reason beer companies put hot chicks in their commercials.
is it stupid that a guy might buy beer b/c they see boobs in a commercial?
sure, but it works.
also, I mentioned the logo b/c sometimes they put more than just a player on the cover.
and it doesn't matter if they are in the game b/c when they aren't on the cover they don't immediately pop into your head giving you negative feelings about the product before you purchase it.

Most people who'll get their panties in a bunch about the mention of Penn St. probably don't even know what their uniforms look like.

The beers that have commercials with boobs tend to be really shitty. The lesson here is that if you have a shitty product, you need great marketing. If you have a great product (and brand), not so much.
