Yesterday I picked up a bottle of EH Taylor Single Barrel. I poured up a glass of that and a glass of the EHT Small Batch to compare.
I know this board seems to favor the small batch but I honestly liked the Single Barrel a little better. It seemed just a touchy more silky on the palate and had a bit more depth to it. I certainly enjoyed the Single Barrel, but I'm also not sure it's worth the extra $20 a bottle when it can be found.
Anyone else try these two right next to each other?
One other odd thing recently, I really enjoy ETL. Lately I don't seem to be getting the usual sweet flavor that I'm used to. For some reason, I've been tasting more of the rye in it lately. Anyone else ever notice this with old standbys that they come back to?

Yep a few of us have and all agree the single barrle is better. Unk didn't want to like it better than the cheaper alternative but he couldn't resist. I still drink both...just depends what I'm buying that day.
I think the EHT lineup is about as solid as it gets for easy to find resonantly priced variations. Good for someone looking to branch out. As you have seen the difference between a small batch and single barrle. There rye is a very palatable rye for someone who wants to try a rye. And there barrle proof is top notch.

I agree with you on the barrel proof. I have a bottle and it is quite good.
The only true rye I have on hand is the Willet 6yr barrel proof rye. It is good but not earth shattering. I had a buddy pick up a bottle of this years Whistle Pig Boss Hog. He gave me a sample and it was excellent. It is the best rye (in my very limited exposure) that I've had. I don't know if I'd be willing to pay the asking price for it, but it was certainly good.

I dont recall many saying the small batch was better. the single barrel is on a different level IMO

Haven't had any pours lately, the wife is ready to pop at any minute with our 2nd daughter. I'd prefer not to show up at the hospital with bourbon on the breath But I got some sphere ice molds and the wine/liquor shop just opened in our building with a small selection (Bookers, 4 Roses, Bulleit, Knob Creek, Jefferson's) so I'm anxious to get back in the game and grab a bottle or 2 before heading home.
Anyone ever had the Knob Creek rye whiskey? Decent for OFs?

I have not had it. Friend of mine uses it in OFs and loves it.
