Honestly that would make more sense to me since it was fairly spicy and had almost some mint tastes at times. I just figured it was a wheat since it was Bernheim and the mellowness for a 20 year made sense.

im telling you, I thought it was a rye mash bill. let me try to find where I read that...

The mash bill for Barterhouse Whiskey is 86% corn, 8% barley and 6% rye. Bottled at 90.2 proof, 45.1% (ABV).

Those are bourbon. All Tennessee Whiskey by definition is bourbon. The only difference is Tennessee Whiskey has be be made in Tennessee and most of it is charcoal filtered.

I thought the charcoal mellowing disqualified it from being Bourbon?

nope

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 C.F.R. 5) state that bourbon made for U.S. consumption[15] must be:
Produced in the United States[16]
Made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn[16]
Aged in new, charred oak barrels[16]
distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume)[16]
Entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume)[16]
Bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume)[17]

I thought to be bourbon, it can't have any flavoring added. The charcoal imparts a flavor, disqualifying it from being bourbon.

I have been getting my bourbons from Caskers on line. (Blantons and Four Roses Single Barrel are my favorites). Is there any place in Baton Rouge that carries a wide selection of select bourbons. I really like the single barrels over the blends and proofed.
