thank god for the big ten.
i almost feel sorry for uconn.
this all the fault of the providence mob that went out of its way to cater to the catholic basketball school for so long instead of being proactive in the conference expansion game.

This is their own damn fault for blocking the football side of things from getting better for years.
If they'd allowed the football side to expand years ago, they'd have gotten decent-good basketball schools like Memphis while possibly retaining Syracuse and Pitt.

It would have to be Big 12 or independent. They are about to get left out of this whole thing probably though.

Like who? Big East football was dying once Miami and VT left years before realignment went crazy.

The 7 basketball members should join with A10+Creighton and form a 23 team conference. The good news is that because the 7 teams are dissolving the conference, they can keep the Big East name and rebrand it as a basketball only power. Split the conference into two divisions. Keep the former BE schools together plus the Philly schools to get 11 and Keep the former A10 schools together plus Creighton. I think they could totally make it work. Hell, the Big East already has like 20 members. At least this alignment would be a stable basketball only conference with the Big East name on it.
Big East:
(A)
Georgetown
Villanova
Marquette
St Johns
Seton Hall
Providence
DePaul
Temple
St Joes
Fordham
La Salle
(B)
Creighton
Butler
VCU
Xavier
Dayton
UMass
Richmond
Rhode Island
Duquesne
George Washington
Saint Louis
St Bonaventure
What divison would be better...id say B?

At this point who cares really? Since the 7 baskeball only schools are the majority right now, they have to strike before July 1st when all the newest footall additions are formally added to the conference and then making them the minority. If they dissolve the conference, the 7 basketball members could keep the name Big East which would be VERY smart for marketing. The A10 schools should look at this in a positive way! Nothing against the A10, but the name Big East is a monster name in basketball.

Why would Creighton have any interest in joining that league? And that large a conference is completely unwieldly.

The Big East currently has like 20 members in ONE division. What is so crazy about this?

The Big East currently has 15 teams. Not 20 or 23. And you didn't address the other part of my question.

Because the Big East name is wwwayyy bigger then the Missouri Valley Conference. A Big East/A10 merger would be a nice conference that would get multiple bids. The MVC is a one bid leauge with 2/3 teams in a great year. Joining that conference is a much better move then staying in the MVC.

Everybody because they'd be giving away money.

Kind of but you ain't fooling anybody into thinking it's still the Big East without Syracuse, Pitt, UCONN, Louisville, and Cincy. It'd be a good conference but they'd lose a crap load of money just trying to keep the name.

As opposed to staying in the current BE and playing in a conference with UCF, Houston, SMU, Memphis, Tulane, Boise St, San Diego St and Temple??? Come on lol! Id rather be in a league with basketball schools like Butler, Creighton, VCU, Xavier, Dayton and UMass over those schools. Dissolving and rebranding is the BEST way to go. Its the only way they can control their own future stability. Why be at the mercy of the football schools?

They have a pretty good record of getting more than one team into the tourney on a consistent basis.

Joining a conference where their closest confernce mate is 470 miles away and fighting 22 other teams for a bid is better than their current situation?
