A once in a generation QB like JFF makes everyone look like a brilliant coach.

Take him, only Tech would be stupid enough to get a guy as young as KK.
It's a risk, but with him being young if he turns out to be a good coach then Tech may actually keep him around for awhile. I imagine that is what they are looking at...let him build his own program. Not many people want to stay in Lubbock very long

Texas Tech is a circus right now. There is no way that KK gets the job. They need stability with this hire or their program could find itself at near Kansas levels. They need to hire Morris or explore other options.

interesting tidbit....Sumlin and Kingsbury did not recruit Manziel at Houston... whereas Johhny F's first offer came from Chad Morris when he was at Tulsa.
Chad Morris is trying like hell to get out of Clemson before his offense gets shut down again by LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Then he opens w/ UGA in 2013. Three shutdowns in a row by SEC teams (starting w/ SC) will kill his stock.

Sumlin and Kingsbury have been quoted as saying they didn't offer Manziel because they saw offers from Oregon and A&M and knew he would not choose Houston.
Kingsbury is a very risky hire for their AD. If Kingsbury fails as a HC, the AD is assuredly gone. With such a short track record and the question of Kingsbury being the Krby Smart to Sumlin's Nick Saban, the risks might outweigh the rewards with Kingsbury.
Tech also has interviewed the DC for the Titans who reached out to them. I would not be shocked if it were his job to lose.

Risky to hire Kingsbury. Risky not to hire him.
Texas Tech fans think Kingsbury is the next Nick Saban. The TT "Guns Up" thingy might take on a whole new meaning if the AD passes up Kingsbury in favor a defensive coach. The AD might want to keep his family away from open windows for a while.

While most if the fans want KK, they would be very happy with Morris.

Then why did he interview for the Texas Tech head coaching job last week?
Know how I know you're full of sheet? He didn't interview last week.

Wont happen. Kingsbury hates Kent Hance and as told those around him he'll never go to Tech while he's there. The Leach debacle soured him. Word is this is a money play and A& M is about to give him a big raise.
How is this just a money play? If A&M knows he will NEVER go to Tech while Hance is there it seems to me he has no hand to play in demanding a raise. Unless of course that NEVER is actually a MAYBE. Then just Maybe this will happen.

Chad morris is more established and went 169-38 as high school coach in texas. I think he is going to be the guy

Are you seriously that fricking stupid?
Why would he interview last week for a job that has only been open for 4 days?

Same way Tebow made Meyer & Mullen a genius? Or the same way that $cam made Gus Malzahan a genius?
When will the idiotic fans amongst us realize that spread formation offenses-whether run heavy or pass heavy; hell, even blended-are here to stay because they WORK?
Its not a gimmick. Its not a player. Its a system that can take even average talents-like Kingsbury himself, or a Symons & Harrell at TTU-and get them to perform at staggering levels.
Defensive players are typically less disciplined because they don't know what plays coming. Spreading them out via OL splits and multi-receiver formations puts even more strain on the scheme and the individual technique a player uses on defense.
Combining that with a massive amount of repetitions that most spread formation teams drill on in practice (because of the simplicity of reads and playcalls, etc), and you have a well-oiled machine versus a group that's literally stretched thin and then asked to do things they're not comfortable with.
These results aren't happening in a vacuum. Leach's offense won a national title in 2000 at OU. Its not like this is a Johnny come lately, folks. Its been here, and it'll stick around here.
BECAUSE IT WORKS.

He didn't say anything about offensive style.
He is saying more like Favre made Curley Hallman look like a good coach.
ETA: And, to your point about Meyer....he didn't do so well after Tebow left and is winning now wit a guy that is / could be a Heisman contender.
I'm not supporting the other poster's point of view. Just trying to explain what i THINK he means.

Very happy is a stretch.
Scout board sentiment is pretty overwhelming in favor of Kingsbury but you are probably right. They would adjust.
Pretty sure Jerry Gray would not go over well. He coaches Defense, has never coached or recruited for colleges and left Lubbock to go to UT.

from the outside looking in, Morris would seem to be the better candidate... more OC experience, more overall coaching experience, Texas high school ties, etc.... the only thing Kingsbury has over Morris is the relationship with TTU.
KK is probably not ready for a BCS conference level job... even for his relatively young age, his coaching experience is very limited -- not that I blame him for taking his shots in the NFL and Canada... but he hasn't come up through the GA ranks and paid dues like a lot of coaches in their mid-30s (kirby smart being an example).

I totally agree, but I think there's some segment of every fan base that are going to be upset with virtually any hire. The money people are the ones that matter and I am not sure what their position is on Kingsbury.

Concur.
As an outsider, I am baffled about why TT has not even looked at an up-and-coming-HC from a mid-major....seems to be the trend this year at BCS schools to hire guys with HC experience.
Posted on 12/12/12 at 9:26 am to dr__dawggy
most of the good mid-major guys have been taken at this point... sonny dykes would've made sense in lubbock, but the timing didn't work out.
Sucks, but that's the reality when you're at the end of the chain reaction.
