The Angels are staying busy Wednesday, picking up Joe Blanton on a two-year, $15 million contract to add to their rotation.

FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi hears that the Kansas City front office has made free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez their “top choice” this winter. It’s going to cost a ton of money, but the Royals’ higher-ups are surely aware of that and presumably wouldn’t get involved at all if they didn’t think they could swing it.

From ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick comes word that the Rockies have re-signed left-handed starter Jeff Francis to a one-year major league contract.
No word yet on the financial details.

Yeah, mostly due to the fact that he has been platooned in a sense and not gotten full playing time.
He may not be Ripken in terms of injuries, but he certainly is not Mark Prior. I am making a favorable prediction, but it is definitely not unreasonable.

Nah, Napoli will love the short wall in Fenway. He historically crushes in Boston. Texas is definitely a hitter's park, but so is Boston and he will have plenty of protection still and more PA's.

No, but with his body, not that he's fat, he is a little more prone to muscle pulls.
I think a reasonable expectation from him next year would be 120-140 games with 25-30 homeruns.

He has 62 AB's there, hardly significant.

31 and 33 is old now? These dudes are in their prime. 1 bad season at this age isnt a trend.
So what's the deal.. is 30-35 HRs not worth $13 million a year for 3 years?
And Victorino fell off compared to his career year the year before. He really didn't fall off much considering he had no one else in the Phillies lineup to help him out. He is a gold glove OF, never hurt, and is known as one of the best clubhouse guys in the league.
Don't let your bias get to you. The Yanks pay like $45 mil a SEASON for CC and Teix. Another $16 mil for Jeter. Bad contracts, yes? Can't wait to see how you spin Mike Young's $16 million into a positive![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/iconpopcorn.gif)

A 31 year old who hasn't played a full season and a 33 year old guy who regressed last year.... That has more to do with it than length. If both were a couple years younger fine but I doubt either magically finds fountain of youth. Although I do believe Napoli hits 30-35 home runs in Fenway

They would have the worst two contracts in baseball with Arod and Young. $45million for those two ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/surprised.gif)

Victoria is a 32/33 year old who is on the down side of his career. He isn't going to "improve" and will probably continue to decline and play more like he did last year than he did previous season.
Napoli is 31 and has yet to play a full season. Some of that can be due to injuries and being platooned. He will hit the home runs or be injured. Fenway park should help him hit a few more and he will get all the playing time he can as Boston isn't going to sit him.
Boston is paying to remain mediocre really IMO they have money to spend and spending it on players who won't significantly make them better. They could do that with cheaper alternatives or bringing the kids up from farm and throwing them in the fire. These are complimentary players you would bring in to plug holes on a championship club.... Not a club like Boston. They still have a chance to sign a big player though.
As far as Yankees players I've made myself clear in past about their contracts. I've always been on record as saying 20+ million a year for a player is a joke. CC is at least still one of top pitchers and the ace of the staff. An all-star player who actually has a chance for HoF one day.
Tex is over rated and over paid to be a defensive first baseman.

If the Red Sox aren't contenders, they will be able to deal those two guys and their contracts fairly easily and will probably get a nice haul for them.
It's really a win win for them IMO

They won 69 games last year. That is not mediocre. That is traditionally Orioles territory (sorry Baloo).

Uh, Philly was a championship club with Victorino in 2008 and Texas won back-to-back pennants with Napoli as a key cog. They may not be the ace in the hole, but they are damn good players.

Too bad this isn't 08 and Victorino isn't 4 years younger now eh?
Key cog? In 2011 he was a key cog but 2010 he was with Angels 2012 they were second WC so yea

They still have not declined precipitously like you think they have. They will be very good.
Yeah, I fricked up with Napoli's years. He was still raw and arguably their best player on a pennant-winning team.

Shane isn't going to hit .293/.352/.447
He is probably closer to last year of .255/.321/.383
How many speed guys really improve after the age of 33? I don't even think he hits near his career avg of .275/.341/.430
Napoli I've stated he should still hit for power but probably not offer much more of anything else as he isn't a good defensive player at any position and he won't hit for a high avg. Adam Dunn but cheaper probably. A player Boston really didn't "need" and won't really improve them but they had money to sign players and did. Maybe they do like Gyno said and try and move but that is a Pirates type move and teams don't give up the best prospects because of new trade rules on draft picks and what mot

Why will he not even approach his career average? Both of their best seasons was 2011. That is the near distant past, and it would be absolutely shocking if their talents eroded that quickly.
I feel like you are just saying all of this shite because they are the Red Sox.

How many players over the age of 33 really improve, period?
Just looking at recent similar players to Victorino, guys like Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu. Both flirted with career years and received MVP votes in seasons after they turned 31. Vic will be 32 this season. 32. 9 years in the league. You are acting like he's Omar Vizquel.

I'm still trying to figure out who even said he was going to improve. A bounce-back towards his career averages after a bad 1/2 season wouldn't be "improving"; it's called normalcy

I did say that I predict Napoli to hit a career in HR if he plays a full year.
Otherwise, I expect them to have career average years, which are good seasons because they are really good.
