WTF does it matter if Coach Joe Dumbfrick before him recruited a few players here and there if he couldn't do shite with them?
No shite. I mean Dinardo left a pretty well stocked cupboard for Saban and no one is taking any credit away from Saban.

Danny West is an Arkansas Rivals guy.
Danny West is full of shite.

I never said I love this hire anyway.
I just don't feel it's humiliating or laugh worthy.
Well then Congrats are in order.....

It was in response to saying Miles was the Saban of oSu which he wasn't. The Saban of oSu was Pat Jones. Miles was more like Switzer, he kept monster fed and grew it.

Two gators, a holiday, and a sun bowl. Before he buried that program. Tremendous.
Yep. Just like Saban.

Jones opened the pipelines. You do remember who Jones was competing with? It isn't like oSu was anywhere near the power MSU LSU or Bama was before he got there.

Apparently on average 7 teams that could bash his head in routinely. About 4 that he could handle. He truly was their Saban.
Jones got lucky Jimmie Johnson did work there. To say nothing of the crippling sanctions they were hit with so they could "compete."

The cupboard wasn't bare
it wasn't but it was severly limited in talent though, unlike what you're suggesting. they were 3-8 the yr. before.
Gundy has even said that when Miles got to OSU the talent level was "pretty average".
quote:
“He came in here and said, ‘OK, here's how we're going to take some players who are pretty average, and by being tougher than everybody else, we're going to win enough games to where they start to think we can win,'” Gundy said. “And then, we should be able to recruit better players.

Actually Jimmy was only there for 3 years. Plus don't let the fact that oSu got hammered for Hart Lee Dykes with probation be forgotten. Michigan St was in better shape, as was LSU and Bama. Saban is better coach yes, but for oSu Jones made them a place where people wanted to go.

Oh I know. Pat Jones was still on the staff when that happened. The bottom line is he was gifted the best backfield in the history of college football from his Saban, the double J. Your attempt to discredit Les by pointing to the wrong guy responsible for the 80s at OSU was just kind of funny, broham

here's another nugget from Gundy from all that talent that Les inherited from a 3-8 team.
quote:
“He was smart enough to realize that some of the guys that we had here may not be as good as what we think we need, but if we are tougher than (opponents), we can pound this thing out and win enough games and kind of get it rolling.”

Jimmy didn't recruit both those guys. Sanders was a Jones recruit. Jimmy was in Miami already. Jimmy was put at oSu by J Frank to take over for Holtz when time came, but J Frank renigged.

Johnson left oSu in Jan 84

quote:just so I'm clear the "monster" in this scenario is Oklahoma State? One winning conference record since 1988?
Miles was more like Switzer, he kept monster fed and grew it.
If that's a monster then what do you call a dynasty? Arkansas under Nutt?
Posted on 12/4/12 at 5:54 pm to drexyl
Most of the recent HCs at Arkansas have been total dickheads... So - Yes. He's a great fit.

I don't know that he is the right fit. I'm very underwhelmed by the hire.

The monster was success as far they enjoyed it. Oklahoma State felt it could compete with Jones and Simmons, before then they did not. Miles fed it and made it stronger, especially winning games vs Stoops. But it helped oSu build that monster with Gibbs Schnellenberger (just for a year) and Blake being terrible at times.

I keep hoping this is not true. I am "meh" on the hire...thinking we will just be middle of the pack again.
We have to have a top 5 or so coach to consistently win here....and this guy aint it.
Middle of the pack school + middle of the pack coach = Middle of the pack.

but did Arkansas just hire Les Miles-lite
If you think Miles would do jack shite compared to what Bielema did with similar talent then I don't know what to say

Im thinking it will be much easier for BB to get better talent at Arky than Wisconsin. I really think the Hogs made a very good hire. BB had a few really good teams at Wisconsin and never had a great recruiting class. He will have a good pool of talent to recruit from in Texas and N. Louisiana and so what if he is an a-hole? Hes Arky's a-hole now. Many teams take on the personality of their head coach and I think Bielema brings a serious, tough, blue-collar attitude that will rub off on the Hogs. Again I like this hire, and the SEC West just got tougher.
