That Auburn has hired a head coach, according to people inside the Athletic Department. He said he had no idea who, but that it's over.

If y'all give Kirby Smart 20 million dollars Jay Jacobs should be fired on the spot.

If they hire smart while Petrino was out there....no words really.

Is this even an upgrade over the Chiz?

No doubt about it. Smart may turn out to be a great HC but the fact remains that he has overseen 2 coaching searches now and if what everyone is saying is true the finalist in the 2 searches were Chizik and Turner Gill in 08 and Malzahn and Smart now. A competent AD he is not.

No, CC retweeted someone telling him that, and added "can't confirm right now"

This is why we can't have nice things.

And by "we" I mean "you".

And by "nice things" I mean "the Auburn board".

I would say no. He's running Sabans defense, not his. Huge mistake by Auburn if It's him.

Maybe, Maybe Not. This is a gamble.

I am only upset about this potential hire (as a Bama fan) because of the impact it could have on the Championship Game and with closing our recruiting class for this year.

this is the exact reason I don't want him. Everyone knows that Saban is all things Defense and the DC is just doing what Saban tells them to.

Isnt that what was said about muschamp too?
Not saying that it matters one way or the other but I don't think that's a reason to dis on smart. Saban is a good person to learn under. I would be more concerned that smart maybe needs a little more time to mature as a coach before he has to move into the fishbowl. You don't want a Dooley situ.

Muschamp went out on his own and ran defenses at BCS schools without Saban at the very least. Smart has yet to prove he's anything more than a Saban lackey.

It may very well turn out to be a great hire, but its a pretty big gamble. One I'm not sure AU could afford to do right now.

Agreed, but Muschamp did venture away from Saban for a bit to broaden his horizons and run his own defense. He also got to see how another big time program is run.

Smart is in a different situation. He may turn out to be a great coach. I just think it may be a reach for Auburn. But who knows, maybe the thinking is that his inside knowledge will help him beat Saban, and that what's its really all about for Auburn at this point.

Muschamp ran a Saban Defense and he has his school at #3. Have faith it can be done.

So, just to be clear, you DON'T want someone who knows how to run, scheme, coach, and recruit for a Nick Saban defense inside and out? If anything, y'all should only hire him under the condition that he doesn't change a single thing.

I know that Saban has his hands in everything at Alabama, and definitely has a lot to do with the defense, but people (even Bama fans) act like Kirby Smart is only employed because of a rule that says that Saban HAS to call someone other than himself the defensive coordinator.

All I'm really saying is that I don't think Auburn should be the one to run the experiment of finding out whether or not Smart is good at being anything other than Saban's DC. That doesn't mean I don't think he could be a good coach, I would just prefer that he prove himself somewhere else before being offered the HC position at Auburn.
