quote:Let me get this straight- you want LSU to fire the head coach, if another school puts an offer on the table???
LSU should tell Miles if this happens again, they will fire him on the spot and bring someone else in to coach LSU.
I agree with this. DP is actually correct on this one
It's a shame the rest of the SEC doesn't think like this. Auburn could do everyone a favor and offer Saban a bunch of cash, and then leak it to the internet. Get that mofo canned!!!

Do you honestly think Nicky does not use his even greater leaverage to get more money? Of course he does.

Why? I don't understand why some of you act like it is that unbelievable that a team would offer to take another teams most successful coach in school history.

I think the point Dan was making, more tan anything else is that a contract is a contract. Why should a coach sign a contract for 7 years and then "entertain" an offer to get a raise?
What he is saying is that the AD's need to hold these coaches feet to the fire. No renegotiations and no interference from other schools...period. If your coach is under contract, then you can take legal action against anyone who tries to get them to leave before the contract is up. Remove payout amounts from contracts. None.
Miles seven year contract gives lots of security to Miles and nothing to LSU. Dan's point also is that in a few years, Miles will do it again....it worked twice before...
He stated over and over again that Miles played LSU...big time!
Next time it happens, Alleva should say ...you are fired...
DP stated over and over that LSU was a dream job and lots of coaches would love to have miles gig.
Not much to disagree with here...in my opinion

Well, Lagdon, I'm not sure where you've been the past decade or so, but, no a contract is not a contract. At least not in sports, anyway. In professional sports, both players & owners are always getting out of poor contracts. In college ball, coaches have always been able to switch jobs in the middle of a lengthy contract..the clown now at Ariz.St ( I believe) had 3 jobs in 3 yrs.Do I agree with that? No. But it does happen all the time & to hold CLM accountable when no one else in the country has ever been just shows where you are really coming from: you don't like him, period. Which is your right. Just as it is for CLM to listen to any/all contract offers that mite come his way. Except in this case, what he "did" was nowhere near as bad as what his detractors are saying he did. He supposedly got a $500K raise. That's what I call reallly throwing LSU under the bus.

Why does Dan Patrick hate the free enterprise system?
Posted on 11/30/12 at 10:15 am to Methuselah
Didn't read the whole thing. Fwiw, Gary Patterson, who has the same agent as Miles, was quoted yesterday, in the Ft. Wort Star Telegram, as saying that he knows/knew that UA never made an offer to Miles.

Chris Landry said the same thing on ESPN radio last night. Said Miles was absolutely NOT a candidate for the Arky job. Was very pro Miles, but said this whole thing was about Miles posturing and lobbying to get incentives and guarantees for his assistants. Feel free to read between the lines. Guess we that guarantees Stud isn't going no where.

There is not a sole on this board that can say if a friend called you up to discuss a job that would make you the highest paid person in your proffession you would not take the call listen and then help him find the right person if you decided not to take the job yourself. Dan Patrick is an idiot looking for ratings.

Yeah, IF THAT was what happened. What happened was Miles used Arky as leverage against LSU. Reality isn't that tough. This is how the game works. Blame Miles OR blame the system.

Ok so what he leveraged the system but who wouldn't if they could or knew how. I have seen many of people use one company against another to get a raise or to get a promotion or whatever they were after. This doesn't just happen in football it happens in business every day.

Actually there is lots to disagree with:
This is standard in the coaching profession it happens all the time Les is not the first to do this and wont be the last.
There is only so much the AD's can do if they want a big time coach the industry standrd practices win out
If Alleva wants to lose his job for not obtaining a winning coach I agree fire a winning coach and see how long you get to keep your job.
This is ture but how many of them can duplicate the result.
