And I bet Sumlin gets a raise this year and professors left A&M for other schools as well.

Not sure what you are trying to say...no there's no reason for them to bitch because their university is secured on whatatters-education. The backwardness of this thread is why Louisiana will always rank last in what matters y'all would rather the football program be secure than the school itself. Abetter university would attract more educated young professionals more research money and also better cooperations as there would be aore educated workforce

LOL....My first thought too. Budget cuts for the school because of the economy. The TAF and Athletic Departments are flush with cash due to the success of the football program. Adam is just looking for a little redistribution of wealth. Bet he thinks paying taxes is "patriotic" just like Obama does.

You don't recognize that paying market value for a good football coach at what is known as a football school is an investment for the entire university? What would LSU look like with no athletic dept?

You obviously voted for Obama so I don't know if you can get it.

I say we've got too much education in this country....at least too many liberal educators...I place the blame of Obama's second term on so-called "higher" education...THE MOST LIBERAL SPOTS IN THE COUNTRY IS ON OUR UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES....

The people to who education is important to donate to the school. The people to who athletics is important donate to the TAF. It's up to those with the respective fiduciary obligations to manage those foundations in the best interest of the people who found it important enough to donate. One has nothing to do with the other. Still don't get it?

I'll bet you also don't believe that with a winning football program comes more exposure, raising the profile of the university, resulting in an increase of applications and allowing LSU to raise it's admission standards thereby improving the academic reputation of the university?

Everyone in this thread gets it except for Adam. Or maybe we're all wrong.

Adam, how much have you donated to improve academics at LSU?

We don't take money from the education budget. The athletics department prints money every time we're on TV.

Something like that....each team in the conference gets $17 million annually from contracts with CBS and ESPN. Maybe Adam thinks that those networks would be willing to pay SEC schools that amount to watch the educators do their thing?

aTm is one injury away from mediocrity. Johnny Football is the only reason they are relevant. Remember Ole Miss with Eli Manning. Remember Ole Miss without Eli Manning. The big difference: aTm is just playing Johnny Football, Eli (for some reason known only to Cutcliff) sat behind Romero F'ing Miller at Ole Miss.
Cam Newton at Auburn: Great. Now Coaching Search. aTm is a one car parade.

I saw a stat that said that 70% of JFB's yardage was from broken plays. That is not sustainable. I predict a huge sophmore slump as teams figure him out. Look at the second half of most of his games.

It makes me wonder how much the big schools like LSU actually makes on football alone plus merchandizing?

Dude. You wanna bitch about funding for academics at Louisiana State University (and about a dozen other state-funded institutions of higher learning)? Start at the governor's mansion. Not the fricking Athletic Department.

Do you even read the paper? Sheesh
The governor has cut a couple hundred million from the LSU budget over the last two state legislative sessions and you wanna bitch about a 500k raise for the football coach.

Ignorant.

That's for their whole system and 6B of that is from the higher-education oil fund.

5 billion for the College Station campus. LSUs endowment is 350 million.

The question are the LSU athletics teams professional teams or are they there as intercollegiate competition. UGA, Notre Dame, Tennessee, TAMU etc all make about as much for their school as LSU does and pay their coach less. So dont give me we have to pay the coach this much or the school wont make money from athletics. One decade ago people were outraged because we payed Nick Saban 1 million. Now we are going to be paying over 4. Where does it end?

And as for the person saying I should look at the governor. Yes, I do think Jindal sucks, is an enemy of LSU, and only looking out for his presidency hopes in 4 years.

LSU's endowment is about $700M, nice try. And you really don't understand anything about the history of giving in Louisiana vs. Texas and the financial structure of these institutions, do you?

For the record:

Tennessee System is only $100M more and UGA is the same as LSU.

LINK

Total assets for LSU, LSU agcenter, AND the law school add up to 538 million. Endowed funds = a paltry 339 million

Because for some reason cuttin funds to those darn liberal edumucators and cuttin funds to those free loaders in health care is a republican creed. It should all be privatized!
