Feel silly bringing it to a shop. The thing is so damn simple, there's nothing to it.
Have you disassembled it? Sometimes on re-assembly, if you don't get the takedown screws perfectly even (you know, turn one, then the other, then back, kind of like lugs on a wheel), I've heard it can get sticky.

Saw a couple of things from rimfire central after a search that may help right off the bat
Appreciate it

This is what caught my eye. I have seen warnings about this before but I need to check it again. Could've sworn I did it right but now that I think about it this could very well be the issue. Damn things are great when their owners don't screw them up!

When I was looking I saw the Marlin model 60. I remembered taking my dads and shooting it over our pond. I forgot to lock the magazine in place and shot that fricker about 15 feet in the water. I never found it  My dad was pissed
Thanks for the suggestions I still haven't made my mind up

I have an old .22 tube fed semi auto that was my dads. Something very similar happend to his. I'm not sure of the model or else I'd have a new rod for it.

You could always do what my dad did, get a single shot bolt action and make your kid think hard about every single $.03 shot.
...don't be that dad.
Seriously though, it is a good way to start out.
But get the Henry plain ol' lever action .22, you won't regret it. Put subsonics in it and the sound of hitting the target will be louder than the report.

I have a Remington Nylon 66. Do they still make those?

I think a lot of us started on single shot .22's. It really was an great way to learn accuracy because you knew you didn't have a follow up shot.

A damn henry .22
There's no .22 on the market for under $300 that you can pick up and go "damn, this is a fine arse rifle" except for the henry.

Been looking at buying a new 22 also. was wondering about the Ruger 10/22 Takedown, any of y'all have one. Just wondering about the reliability of it.

I had heard that there were some reliability issues when it was first rolled out, but I haven't heard much on it.
