This year the defense was not nearly so good at preventing scoring as was last year's unit-see TAMU, 'Bama, Ole Miss among others.

Hard to say if Mett has improved this year. He is very slow. His release looks slow to me. He seems to have difficulty understanding when to get rid of the ball. He seems to be no threat to run. If the protection is good he may do very well. In his defense the receivers dropped far too many passes

...and at the end of the season, LSU STILL had a shot at making it into the SEC Championship game. A 10-2 record with some serious issues around the entire team is nothing to shake a stick at.

I think most of the whiners forget all of the issues and injuries. This might be Miles' best coaching job to date.

just dont think he deserves 5 million and people talking about how awesome of a coach he is

I dont know why people try to decide how much money he should make...do you know how much money Kirk Ferentz makes? Do you know who the hell Kirk Ferentz even is? He's the Iowa coach, and he is 6th on the list of highest paid coaches in the country right behind Les Miles...hes makes 3.9 million dollars a year. So we are only saying Miles is slightly better than Kirk Ferentz?? They went 4-8 this year and aren't even bowl eligible for the record.

ETA: The went 7-5 each of the previous 2 seasons and played in the Insight Bowl both years, winning one and losing one making his three year stretch 8-5, 7-6, and 4-8...and again, he makes 3.9 million dollars a year.

Not saying the year is ugly at all. Really do not like 2nd fiddle to the dang gumps. For now that is the standard, like it or not.

so 4 bad calls, pretty damn good percentage of good calls vs bad.....saban has made his fair share of mistakes along with every coach in the country

He has been outstanding the last 2 years. With most coaches we lose at least 4 games this year.

Hmm, Beat them last year, Outplayed them, Yes we lost, but shouldn't have. And now it's the standard? GTFO with this bullshite.

Name another coach that has the Head to Head record against Saban that Miles does.

I'll wait.

Les is the only coach to have beaten him more than once while at Alabama.

Hers a question for you. If he didnt win all those games would your expectations be this high? If we didnt win a bcs championship in 07, people wouldnt be saying we have a top program in the country. If we didnt beat every one we played last season, people wouldnt expected us to go all the way this year.

So yes the record matters. And ill be honest, JJ and lee werent good, but they werent the worst weve had.

Also lsu has scored 31.6 pts per game under miles. He has also ciached some of the most prolific offenses lsu has ever had.

Our O in 2002 was worse than anything miles has put ont he field. 04 was worse than every season but 09. Why does saban get a pass? Why does he get a pass for letting the #1 overall pick ride the bench while he started a linebacker at qb? Saban at lsu< than miles at LSU.

Expectations werent this high under saban. People sucjed the guy off for winning 9 games. Miles success here is what raised expectations, not saban.

Go look at Avery Johnson's Twitter from last night. He was freaking out thinking that Miles was gonna leave. Kids LOVE to play for the man, he's a man of high character, and he puts up a W 80% of the time.

Les is the only coach to have beaten Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, Petrino, Tressel, and Kelly. The first four he's beaten multiple times, the later two he's mopped the field with. Chew on that for a second, consider all the different football philosophies he has faced and beaten, and then tell me that Les isn't and x's and o's coach.

Extremely valid point made here. When Miles came, just like when Saban left, the concern was whether we'd be able to continue competing for the SEC and occasionally win it. National title again? That was on the "hope for and be profoundly thrilled, but not expected to occur" list.

Les came, and 2005-2007 moved LSU from "a good team with a chance" like Wisconsin, to "an elite team who can win it all, on any given season" like Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, USC etc. That's all on Les Miles, not Nick Saban.

Saban is doing that at Alabama, but what he's doing is way better than we hoped for here with him. And to be 100% honest and fair, Alabama gives you a better chance to do that than LSU does. Always has, and probably always will. That's not a knock on LSU- we're not bad; we're just not, like so many dumbasses think around here, the greatest college football program in the history of football.

I can tolerate that sentiment.

For now is the keyword. There is no reason to believe that can't change.

That's my issue. Posts left and right all over the place insinuating that Miles will NEVER play for a championship. That's absurd. More people thinking in absolutes.

Do the names Marcus Randle & Rohan Davey ring a bell? Little Nicky didn't do a whole lot with either as far as developing their talents. But he, like CLM, did win with them.

If you're gonna disagree please give me something other than win loss record. bad quarterbacks on good teams can still win, but it holds your team back when you play good defenses!

When we had Matt Flynn we were good on offense

When we had JR were were good on offense

When we had RP, we were fun and good on offense

When we had JL...we had pick 6 syndrome

When we had JJ we had hope, then he stopped getting better...then he was suspended

JL was doing well for 8 games

ZM is passing the ball well, the offense looks much better.

To me, it appears it quality of player at the QB position and trust relative to the play call and success.

Miles is winning big in the toughest conference in all of CFB...you people need to stop and appreciate how good we have it...

.815 winning percentage over 8 years..This has never been in done ever at LSU... But this isn't good enough that would be willing to risk hiring another coach?
