BFD.
It's just a piece of cloth. Inasmuch as the play is going to be reviewed, anyway, what harm does it do?
Stupid arse rule. The whole NFL replay system is supremely dumbass.

Is throwing a challenge flag automatic 15 now?
Probably on scoring plays and anytime under 2:00 in each half

Great rule. Otherwise throw the flag all the time on scoring play.
What???

Because its like using an extra challenge and trying to alert the booth when it's their Job to do it anyway. It disturbs flow of game. No need to change rule as noone will ever make mistake again
i understand the flag, but i dont understand them not being able to look at the play.

How would the lions have benefitted from him throwing the challenge flag if they were going to review it anyway?
The throwing of the flag is, by definition, not legal in that situation. It's spelled out as a penalty in the rule book, as part of unsportsman like conduct. That's the bad act, not the review.

Damn you people are dumb

I've seen coaches throw challenge flags before and the ref go over and say its non reviewable and game continues.
Is throwing a challenge flag automatic 15 now?
it was reviewable though
the coach throwing the flag nullified the normal review given after all scores for some reason

Dude, its a unanimous agreement that they should get a 15 yard penalty.
That doesn't mean they shouldn't review the play

"The NFL replay system is so way BEYOND stupid it's comical. What laughable contrived bull shite. "
the replay system is all about extra revenue via more commercial time. The game times are extended without actually playing any more plays. But, because of the extra money it brings in, replay will never go away.

It's a perfectly legit rule. It is to prevent coaches from trying to slow things down or review plays they can't. Otherwise why even have auto review?
Quit being all butthurt.

What about Gary Kubiak decides to throw the challenge flag?
Take the 15 yarder and the TD

A coach pulling a boneheaded move out of pure emotion (that was justified) shouldn't result in 7 points, EVER
Posted on 11/22/12 at 2:04 pm to Lester Earl
Ya not sure why it makes it non reviewable. Seems pointless for sake of being pointless

So because he threw the flag, the play isn't reviewed?
Dumbest rule in the NFL.. that throw was pure emotion and you know it
A coach reacting on pure emotion isn't an excuse. He's getting paid millions to be the one guy on the sideline who can't lose his wits.
Plus, it can be used as an unfair tactic to extend the amount of time that the booth has to review it.

The penalty is fine... But it shouldn't allow refs to get away with a horrific arse call. Review it anyway.
