I believe you are confused on what tradition is.
Pregame is a tradition, Neck is a song the band has played for a couple years

We got neck from the SWAC. It's tradition man!!!

The hypocrisy in this thread is ridiculous. The "students" have been using loose language for 60 plus years. The students chanted "go to hell Ole Miss" during the 40's, 50's and 60's. Admin and adults viewed "go to hell" as vulgar and inappropriate. When the hose students became admin and adults , the vulagatity changed to "a-hole, a-hole". Fast forward another generation ad the vulgarity is STTD. My point is that all of us, from your 80 year old tea tottering grandmother on down participated in some for of risqué conduct as a student. It seems hypocritical of me, a LSU student of the late 80s and early 90s, to call out students on their language/vulgarity. I bring my kids to the games and prepare them for what they will see and hear. We discuss it and make sure they know that it's inappropriate for their use as children. I am much more concerned about what they may see on "regular" TV at night as opposed to what they may hear from the student section. The attempt to "control" the natural behavior of 18-22 year old students meets the definition of insanity in light of their behavior over the last 60 plus years. Its time for everyone to get off of their high horse

FIFY. Neck was awesome whenever the band played it

What a moronic thing to do. I was sitting with visiting recruits and their girlfriends/family. The players smiled, but their people were not amused.

This thread is a microcosm of the issue as a whole. The people who don't see a problem are generally young or even worse immature.
Then you have guys like me who are no longer young, have become parents, and now are responsible for the well being of their own children among other adult things.
It is not the end of the world. As a parent, I wish it didn't happen. As an alumnus, I wish it didn't happen. It serves no purpose and is without question childish...as are those who support it. But over time you will also change. Maturity comes over time and at different rates for different people.

Michael Corleone is right, of course.
Once there are a few people who emgage in socially inappropriate behavior, a precednet has been set.
There after EVERONE can engage in immature and inconsiderate behavior of the most offensive kinds, withouf any gorunds for complaint.
These are the rules.

There's really only one sane answer here...I'd PREFER the students not do it, because it's meant the banning of some fun, and in the case of Tiger Rag, traditional music from Tiger Stadium. At the same time, I'm sensible enough to know that the minute you tell a group (any group, but it makes it even worse when they're young and drunk) that they absolutely CAN'T do something they'll be sure to do it even more.
Put another way, since there's absolutely no way the university can enforce this (can't run up and start kicking out students who are all chanting something) the more people continue to make a giant deal out of it the more it will exacerbate the problem and push the students to keep it up. I'm frankly surprised no one has decided to make the chant fir Pre-game!
ETA:
1- This is not an endorsement of the chant...see the first sentence above.
2- I am 42 and have two boys, both of whom made appearances at TS this season. Neither had any clue what was being said, and we sit directly across from the students in EU 631.

Yeah all those parents who did LSD and Acid in the 70s tell their kids its ok to do it too ... Great logic there.

Oh look at me im gonna drink all day and drive home but college students saying curse words is just too much. Our fans are pussies.

This.
The ethics of saying STTDB (lulz) aside, it really comes down to two things - does the student section prefer to say STTDB and lose one song at a time, or would they like the stadium to get fired up again with songs like Neck? If that's they case, they'd have to bite their tongues. Which won't happen, unfortunately.
Whether or not you agree it's okay to say, no one here calls the shots on if TGBFTL can play it or not.
eta: whether or not you can or can't hear it in certain places in TS, there are mics in the student section for stations. There's the problem.

Dude shut the frick up. How many times did you have to ask "what song was it"
Neck is gone, get over it and stop posting this stupid threads.

Most the people who complain about it now were doing similar things when they were students. Students are going to do this stuff, the best thing to do is get over it.

What really sucks for me is this is my senior year. Not once have I ever participated in STTDB and yet year after year I have to hear about why my tickets should be removed, and how shitty out student section is blah blah....
Piss off. Guess what. I've been to almost every school in the SEC, and a few in the Big 10, and NO SECTION is even close to ours. We rock. Period.

You make it sound like it's either or. Sure, Neck got the crowd pumped up and I'm sad it's gone too, but I'd say the crowd for Bama and USCe were pretty pumped up even without Neck.
Like someone said earlier, as soon as someone made a big deal out of it and banned neck, they ensured that it was going to keep being incorporated in other songs.
There are worse things said throughout the stadium and in stadiums all over the country. It's not just an LSU thing. It makes me laugh and hearing everyone complain makes me want to keep saying it.
and at the guy who said we have the dumbest student section in the country

Gayest student section in the country. It was lame then and it's lame now.

Yes!! I've been impatiently waiting for our annual bitch'n'moan fest about the student section hurting our feelings!
Why does this bother you so? Also, if you don't want your kids hearing vulgarity and seeing drunk people, how about you don't bring your kids to a college football game? Did you ever think of that?? You would do us all a great favor leaving the children at home.

Honestly, does this subject require yet another ten page thread?
The kids swear. The kids have almost always sworn in one way, shape, or form.
Is it the apex of wit and intelligence? No. But it's ultimately innocuous. No one's immortal soul is in jeopardy.
Can we debate something more meaningful, like why our secondary is suddenly porous? LOL.

Do you leave close games early? If not, then you have nothing to worry about, because the discussion is not about you. If you do, then you can't complain.
