Nobody knows who will be the NC if the current top 8
played it off. Until we have a playoff, the NC is just a matter of opinion.

Agreed.

IMO, this is easily doable, "brackets" the "best" team among 8 and when the 8th seed wins it all, that would be the rationale to consider expanding it to more teams.

SO we will reduce the football season to just 8 games then? Get rid of OCC and conference championships? Win our division get a seed? Big 12, Pac-10, Big 10 and SEC get auto bid for the first top four seed, then the rest is others and wild cards? Play out over the remaining season then finally the bowl games?

Ive always been a huge proponent of the BCS and totally against a big playoff to preserve the sanctity of the regular season, which is what makes college football so special and unique. I loved the fact that everything was on the line 2 weeks ago against Bama. That all or nothing victory is worth the hurt of the loss. Think of how emotionally invested we were in those games the ladt 2 years. If there were an 8-team playoff, that would have drastically taken away from the intense excitement that a few if us are able to experience once a year. If we're lucky.

That said, i think the SEC is so superior at the top, that letting a couple of our teams in makes sense. Especially with tje unbalanced schedule. I.woyld have always been te 1st to argue against LSU this year or in'06. If you want to win the NC, dont lose twice. But when you play Bama, Flirida, A&m, and South Carolina.and lose 2 very close games, you.cant be automatically discounted in favor of 1-loss Pac 12 or Big 12 teams that play substantially weaker schedules. I can get behind an undefeated Oregon or KState ovrr 2-loss LSU. But not when they lose.

you do realize they're not going to let the SEC get 4-5 teams in an 8-team playoff, right?

All of this so so subjective and no other sport is like this. It is the MONEY that's ruined college sports with the bowl games. Everytime I hear "the Grandaddy of them all" I want to puke because I know that these are not open to everyone playing in it for the most part. That's really screwed up. Look at what could happen if tOSU runs the table. They could be the ap#1 team without playing in a bowl or conference game! How would you feel about that?
We need a playoff where all teams are given an equal shot. KState wins out and just because they lay an egg on the road at Baylor they are discounted for their body of work? That's sad.
The major bowl games "plus one" is shite because of alliances. This whole freaking thing seems exclusive and the only way to eliminate it is shutting down the bowl games or opening them up further.
It could work with the 4 bowls and more at large bids, then moving forward with 2 more games. Of course those bowl games would have to be played around Christmas or the week before to avoid getting into the next semester. the problem with thag is people aren't travelling at that time of year for a playoff. Also, these kids are missing family time. Most importantly these bowls would lose $$$$$.
lets say they did that the change i propse then the conference championship games would need to go. That's too many games and this isn't pro football. These guys do need to study!

6 Teams with 2 Teams having a bye is adequate

Example

3. Georgia
****************** 1. Notre Dame
6. Oregon

4. Florida
****************** 2. Alabama
5. Texas A&M

4-team playoff hasn't even started and people are already complaining. I bet this will eventually evolve to look a lot like the FCS system.

I have always been for win your conference and the computers will pick the top 6 conference winners for a playoff. The computers seed them giving the top two teams a bye.

I have no problem with this as it takes the majority of the media bias out of the sport.

How are you picking those 8 teams?

Probably by a system that is a matter of opinion, so how does that fix anything?

One year we want to see X number of teams in a payoffs format and the next year there are four elite teams so then we want a four team playoff. It's useless to think that way you won't ever have it fixed just right

No No No!
I have not read any other posts, but this is bad idea. If there's an 8-team playoff, it will likely be implemented for revenue purposes not just to the appease uneducated fans.

Football is the most physical sport I know. At this point in the season, teams have lost some significant depth. Increasing the size of a playoff only increases the likelihood of injuries. Also, teams won't be able to get as healthy since they'll have less time to rest. How much would it suck to lost your starting quarterback, left tackle, middle linebacker, etc. in the first game of an 8-team playoff? Those are very important positions, that can be difficult to replace so late in the season.

I don't know about 8, but only 4 doesn't really solve much IMO.
At least have 6 where the top 2 teams get a bye
