Y'all know I'm not one to say that the Saints should sign every LSU player, unless it's Dwayne Bowe, Kyle Williams or Kelvin Sheppard. And there isn't much else going on this week, so...

Russell Shepard is not a WR and has been misused at LSU. He should be a 'scat back' and has excelled when used that way in his earlier career. Sproles will be 30 next year and will be in his 9th year in the NFL with. His contract isn't bad. (4.25 against the cap this year, 3.75 next year and 4.25 in 2014) but Shepard will be cheap with the rookie pay scale.

Cadet is ok, but I think Sheppard is a better version of Sproles than Cadet. I've looked for some profiles of where people think he may be drafted, but can't find any. I'm guessing 6th-7th round because he will likley have a fast combine numbers.

Sproles is a very versital and important part of this offense. First we had Reggie Bush. Now Sproles. Does Shepard fit the bill and could he be next?

What does ST think?

He's not even a good college player; what makes you think he'll make a good NFL player, other than the fact he went to LSU?

Lol no. I am sure some team will take a flyer on Shepard late and that will be a wasted pick

He def is not a Sproles replacement, he'd be more of a Reggie player. He would never hold up running between the tackles, but getting him in space like we always did with Reggie would be productive

Late rounder would be welcome I think.
CSP could actually put him on the field where he could excell. Seems to be that "our kinda guy" the Saints draft.

What in the frick has shep shown in college to show you he'll replace a sproles like player? Sproles single handily beat an undefeated oklahoma team in 2003. Do you ever see Shep doing something like that against an undefeated, clear cut number 1 team?

No.

You better have incredible hands to take away touches from anyone on this Saints team.. especially not being a true wide receiver target.. and I don't believe Shep does.

Sproles doesn't really deserve to have anyone compared to him. He's incredible all around.

wut?

Russell Shepard can't hold Darren Sproles' jock. He's been a huge bust throughout his entire LSU career. That being said, he will probably go undrafted, so the Saints should have a great chance at signing him. I wouldn't bet on him being anything special for an NFL team, though.

Besides, the Saints have more pressing needs.

no

Shepard is nowhere nearly as dynamic as sproles. He has straight line speed, but has not exhibited the elusiveness or cut speeds that Sproles has.

I fear for Shepard's safety in the NFL if he plays. Seriously. He hasn't gotten hurt in college, but he might break every bone in his body in the league.

Russell Shepard is not built to be an NFL runner--too light of frame.

He is better suited to be a coach. He is very articulate, knows the game, and would be a great motivator and recruiter.

We might even see him as a sports analyst.
