It's a pretty safe bet that there will be 4 openings for coaches in the SEC at the end of the season. The competition for a quality coach is going to be off the charts because you have 3 solid football schools (Tennessee, Auburn, and Arkansas) that want to get back on the right track and then there's Kentucky, which may finally decide to join the party.

So, how much money does each school really have and how much will they realistically put on the table for a high level coach?

I think Arkansas throws out the most...$3.5 Mill a year.

Who you got?

Man, you guys are harsh on my school. We're trying for over 50 years now to get it right..

Auburn has to show it's interested in closing the gap with Bama, I say Auburn will go 4 million to the right guy, Tenn and Ark between 3-3.5 Million to the right guy, and UK around 2 Million to another guy who will be gone in 3-4 years max.

I think you're right and AU could and would pay that much if there were a candidate willing to come who was worth that kind of money.

I'm not sure such a guys exists though...

I can think of candidates that might fit that criteria that would consider, it... Petrino, Tressel, Patterson, Chip Kelly (if he wants a better conference), Peterson, to name a few.

Could they out-Saban Saban, that is the debate. But my guess is AU fans right now would like to get back to an 8 win season to start.

You guys earn your stripes year in and year out with the caliber of play in that other sport! That's more than I can say for some others schools picking up their pro rata share of the SEC money.

Don't know how much we're paying, but it sounds like we've already got our man locked up.

Won't be involved in a bidding war with AU, Tennessee or Kentuck.

Arkansas Auburn and Tennessee out of desperation will pay a big name some ridiculous sum and frick things up and force the other schools to give a raise to the coaches already making big bucks. Saban's ego will need $8MM if Tennessee pays someone $5.5MM

Maybe, I don't think there's enough big names to go around.

We'll offer Harbaugh and Fisher contracts in the ballpark of $6 million, get turned down, and then end up giving Jimbo a $2 million raise to bring him up to $4 million.

I just don't see Jimbo leaving FSU to come back into the SEC. That guy already knows what kind of slaughter house the SEC is...especially the West.

The only thing you have going for you is the fact that he just got a dose of reality in the fact that he's 9-1 and still behind three 8-2 SEC in the BCS poll. When you play in the ACC, you have to go undefeated to top a 1 loss SEC team...and even that is no guarantee.

Don't be surprised if one of the 4 jobs is the Vanderbilt one. The Vols might try to take the best coach on their state off of Vandy's hands.

Will never happen. Can't ever remember a SEC team stealing a coach from another in state school (SEC or not).

I wouldn't really call this a "steal" and wish I didn't remember this, but Terry Bowden was at Samford (Birmingham) when Auburn hired him.
