L.S.U. instead of 10rc

First let me say that I am 55 years old and remember the days of the Bear and Cholly Mac. Back then there wasn't a lot of hate but then again Bear had us winning em all for the most part. I went to see L.S.U. in Birmingham and I had not seen my Beloved Tide but a couple of times. Back then (Lord I hope I don't sound like Abe Simpson)
We didn't get to see all the teams on t.v. so I (being a very young fan) made sure I stared at the Alabama helmets and the L.S.U. helmet and took in all the sights. But, that's not the reason I'm posting today. I am saying that L.S.U. now occupies the "hated" but respected rival in my book. There was a day when I hated but respected Tennessee. There was a day when Bama vs Tennessee was The Game on the schedule. But, after (IMO) Fulmer did his dirt the respect for Tennessee went out the window and it was just hate. Honestly, now I can't see how an honest Alabama or L.S.U. fan can help but respect the other program. I remember thinking last Saturday night that "Damn, we just can't get separation from these guys." It's like playing a mirror image.
So, when we did win I jumped 3 feet in the air
But, I also realized that with the new expansion of the S.E.C. some things have indeed changed. The old moderate rival has now become the Team to beat and the old rivals have lost some of the zest. I know Bama and L.S.U. are longtime foes. But, since the expansion and the split into divisions and the rise of L.S.U. as a power it's become really, really intense. So, not to blow smoke. I "Hate" L.S.U. but I respect the hell out of you.

Same age here, and you speak the truth about the early years. Since we were born late 50's the rivalry LSU had for Ole Miss was more passed down than reality. Sure we had some good scrums with Ole Miss into the 60's and 70' but it was Alabama and The Bear that was the game of the year. And damn if we couldn't beat him/ya'll. We were lucky to tie. But as time changes so does football and now that AlaSatan is your coach, it's only gotten worse. We always knew each of us had talent, just needed somebody to apply the technique in shaping it to a powerhouse and Satan has done it for both. I just don't understand why the Ala/Tenn game is still that important to your fan base. Ole Miss to us is just another win on the schedule either before the Ala. game or after depending on the schedule as I guess you feel about Tenn. Hope when the scheduling thing comes about, ATM and Alabama are LSU's constant foe in the SEC and rotate the rest, IMO.

IMO, best first post by an opponent here ever. But don't ever post on the SEC Rant that you feel LSU is more of a rival than Tennessee. The Tide fans over there wear it like a badge of honor that the LSU game means no more to them than Western Kentucky.

Hey, oldtimer. I date back to chollyMac, too. It was hard to be rivals, then, when no-one could beat Bear consistently, but 20-10 sure was sweet. I remember being excited as a little kid being able to curse in front of my grandpa- "Go to Hell, Ole Miss, go to Hell!"; we're still bringing the profanity, eh?
Anyway, welcome, I respect ya'll, too. Now go off and choke on a chicken bone.

I didn't interpret your post as a pat on the head but a realistic opinion and one which I agree with. You don't have to like us but you damn well better respect us b/c we and Bama are currently the class of the SEC,IMHO.

Well stated. We're about the same age, but I've hated Alabama since the 60's and didn't care about the Ole Miss "rivalry".
Oh, yeah. I respect the program.

An older ole fart here (62). I was at lsu in the glory days of Chollie mac, 69 to 72. Saw the tide and om in tiger stadium twice. I have always felt like both were our bitterest rivals. Welcome and duck. Cant cheer for you after last year but DO respect you.
