Why is the Hook and Lateral not used more often in non-desperate situations?

Every team should be hooking and lateraling like all the time. It should be art, an entire offense should be built around the hook and lateral scheme and dynamics. I think i'm ahead of my time some days.

Because it requires perfect timing and is easy to frick up

A simple shovel past to a passer by 3 yards away is so not too risky. Just about the same as a pitch. I have a bigger heart attack when zach mett throws a 40 mph backwards handoff throw at the rb.

i've only seen hook and lateral success. If you practice it enough, the possibilities are endless. Usually the hooker has at least a good sec or two before defender gets there to make a nice calm steady pitch to flying back crossing field.

a very fast backwards lateral pitch. It's like a 2 yard fastball.

I've always wondered why teams don't practice lateraling more. I know the risk goes up but if your team becomes great at it I would think the reward could be worth it

If the team can get the timing down on routes and such... dude, how hard would it be to cover a receiving flying 100 mph across the field when all defenders are at a stand still tackling someone else at a totally different angle. At worst case scenario IMO, you would pick up an extra 55 yards every time.

If I ran a team we'd lateral constantly and go for it on every 4th down. It would be spectacular

The reason the Hook and Lateral goes so well im late game situations is because the defense is in prevent.the guys get all day to throw back without someone hittingthem

They would fumble most of the time against a normal defense

And if you don't have a solid offensive line, God help you.

that means that they aren't man to man situations and have safeties back to tackle the crosser. IF you use it in "trick times" when safeties up closer to L.O.S... dude the crosser could have nothing but daylight if his man slacks off at first.

The oopty oop is a much better offense to run than the hook and lateral.

Yeah...the defender is about 10 yards off of him...so the successful ones, the receiver has time to catch, plant, look around, and pitch.

Try doing that in normal coverage.
