Beckham played like dogshit in that game. I am sure a competent receiver could successfully execute a simple lateral.

I would use lateral before the guy got tackled as well.
However, I would punt on very rare occasions when it statistically makes sense.

Its the same reason the option isn't run, it's hard enough to hold on to the ball, why take the risk?
