I'm really enjoying this "Bama could beat NFL team" talking point

...or whatever the hell is going on on ESPN today. I know it was on Mike and Mike and even Dan Patrick Show on the radio. On MSB someone referenced Bayless, etc.

LINK

Obviously the premise is absurd, and demeaning to LSU to an extent, but I'm really glad this shite is playing out.

1. Puts and even bigger target on their back, if possible
2. Further backs LSU against the wall and gives them whatever extra motivation to pin their ears back with nothing to lose
3. Increases pressure on Alabama to not just win, but win big--a team that has yet to face a quality opponent this year
4. This talking point is the exact opposite of Saban's style and I would assume grinds his gears; even mentioning the idea of 18-22 y/o armatures beating 22-35 y/o pros is absurd and the comparison goes straight to their heads and is distracting. Saban knows that.

All this topic was brought up for was to garner responses. The media realizes the idiocracy of the statement and realize the shock value it can generate.

Carolina and KC both would beat Bama easily. Saints are the next worse team record wise right? Could Bama hang with the Saints?

I agree with your "pin their ears back with nothing to loose" statement.

If taken seriously by the NFL team, any team in the league could beat any college team by whatever score they wanted it to be. If KC or Jax or Carolina wanted to win 100-0 that would be the score.

Which makes Spurrier a successful troll for throwing it out there. The ole ball coach is pretty good like that.

The Saints defense would hold Bama under 10.

That speaks volumes of the disparity between the collegiate and professional talent level.

I think this rumor was started to give LSU an advantage. Gives players a big head and makes Saban's skin crawl. I think SOS made this comment in a TV interview yesterday.

Spurrier said on the Dan Patrick show that Alabama could beat a few pro teams.....Patrick prodded him asked if he was kidding and he said he thought they'd be favored in Vegas

Talking points like this should also say: Bama's team are all first round pick locks?

So we know it is complete bullspit.

Absolutely, I don't think anyone really believes this, just ESPN being ESPN

This was going around about Oklahoma in 2003 before the NC game.

I remember in 2003 hearing the "Experts" calling the Oklahoma team that year the best ever in college football history. They claimed they could also hang with some NFL teams.

They then lost to Kansas State.

The media likes to build them up so they can tear them down.

Under 10?

I would probably bet every penny I had that it would be an obvious shut out

I love it when pundits start spouting shite like this. It generally serves as a giant arrow, calling attention to all the sensationalist idiots.

I don't care if you believe it or not. The mere mention that ANY college football team could even come close to beating ANY NFL team is absolutely absurd.

Bama wouldn't cross their own 40 yard line.

And these guys are suppose to be knowledgeable Sports Media....the difference between high school & college ball is incredible & then the difference between College ball & the pros is even GREATER. The worst team in the NFL would crush the Tide. Those guys are a JOKE.

Hope the same thing happens this year and they do try to tear Alabama down. I don't think there is a great effection for Bama as many believe, they were just pawns.
