I don't care if you believe it or not. The mere mention that ANY college football team could even come close to beating ANY NFL team is absolutely absurd.

Without question this is true. Take any player in recent years, Patrick Peterson, Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, whatever. The NFL is an entire roster of these players at every position. All the players above would be a year younger, if there were to play an NFL team.

Brees would break the season passing record in that one game

I remember in 2003 hearing the "Experts" calling the Oklahoma team that year the best ever in college football history. They claimed they could also hang with some NFL teams.

Yep.

The media likes to build them up so they can tear them down.

That's still true to a certain extent, but the media is much more childish now. They will shamelessly continue to tell you a team's the best even after that team loses, a la Bama last year and South Carolina this year. And when asked to explain this contradiction, they'll run to the analytically bankrupt "eyeball test."

They get to pick the refs.

Actually the college allstars use to play the best NFL team at the end of every season until sometime in the late 1970's. The NFL w/l/t record was something like 22-9-2. Things today are much different however in that NFL players actually give a crap. I think the NFL won the last 12 games before stopping this tradition.

You're talking the best players at all positions in all of CFB. This =/= Bama.

And, as you said, the NFL is considerably different now

Do I think Bama would beat an NFL team? What in my post led you to think that?

They did say it, so I'm laying out why I think it's a good thing for LSU.

Clearly it was said tongue in cheek but yeah, it's obsurd. The worst NFL team in history would devour Alabama or any of the other "greatest college teams ever" from start to finish.

It's like Van Gundy said when someone said Kentucky could beat an NBA team. It's nice they have 5-6 NBA players. NBA teams have 13.

It's nice that Bama has 15-20 NFL players. NFL teams have 53

It's spurrier trolling saban, plain and simple. You know that Spurrier knows that Bama couldn't gain 20 yards on an NFL defense, but look at the firestorm of talking points and vegas oddsmakers setting lines on the game. You know saban is pissed about all this noise.

Spurrier:

Neither Alabama nor any other college team could beat the 3rd string on the worst NFL team.

Media whores.

several years ago - people though a LSU baseball team could beat a AAA pro team
we played the new orleans team & it was no contest - the big thing was the slowest baserunner for new orleans was stealing bases ar will

I'll repeat what CFN said.

An NFL team would do to Alabama what Alabama would do to Savannah St.
