I did think of another question...but I think it has more to do with league scoring, as opposed to gameplay, but they obviously go together and that is the bonus point. is this earned by scoring a certain number of points/tries?

Is Six Nations rugby still around? I was watching that pretty steadily a season or two ago.. If you dont like eyes swollen shut and cauliflower ears, something's wrong with you. They all look like heavyweight MMA fighters imo.

They still have the six nations rugby tournament, starts in February I believe.

Different leagues score differently.
You get points for a win or a draw (usually 3 and 1).
You can get a bonus point for scoring a certain number of tries and/or by losing by less than 8 (which prevents teams from just quitting). So if you lose 42-35, and all the scoring was tries, the winner would get 4 points and the loser would get 2.
I think...
I have to look it up again to be sure.

I disagree, but I still like Aussie rules football. Watch it whenever I can.

Same here.
There is no need to have an "either/or" debate with regards to sports. I enjoy watching good sports. Period.
Now all that said, a friend of mine had to give up rugby, but his doctor lets him play footy. So there's that.

Guys in both sports are absolute beasts, but I've been to a couple Aussie games in Melbourne and I just like the rules a little better.

I'm shockingly late to a rugby thread, but if you feel like doing some more detailed reading, check out my website's new player orientation material:

The previous administration left the state of the club in ruins.
I had a puppet dictatorship to throw out, an abysmal budget, theft ran rampant, and player moral had sunk to a 30 year low.
No man should have to shoulder that burden.

What year(s)? Curious cause I had some buddies play for LSU in the mid/late 90's...

It was a one year sentence.
'01-'02...but really, Bus does know just about everything. He'll know your buds too.

what do you want to know about rugby? As I posted in the other thread, that is where most of my disposable income goes...
Flying to Ireland for Munster-Connacht - Dec 22 Galway and Munster-Ulster - Dec 29 Thormond
Then flying to Ireland in early February again for the Ireland-England game...
There are two major annual challenges
Six Nations - Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, France, and Italy
Rugby Championship - NZ, Australia, South Africa (Argentina added this year on trial basis)
Major Competitions - Club Teams
Super 15 - NZ, Aus, and SA teams
Aviva - English League - just remember Leicester sucks
RaboDirect 12 - Teams from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy
Top 14 - - France
Currie Cup - South Africa
All the above is Rugby Union....then you have Rugby League...the international matches suck in League, but the NRL (Aus and NZ) is a great watch and Superleague (UK) is tolerable...

Watched a ton while I was in New Zealand. When produced well and in hd it's very viewer friendly. Also nice to watch guys actually tackle. I honestly think if I moved there I would get really into it and not miss football too badly.
Is there anywhere to watch nrl in the states like on direct tv?
Also little dorkish fact for you guys. The orcs chanting in lord of the rings were actually fans at a Wellington match with Peter Jackson leading them in the middle of the stadium.

If only we still had Bill McLaren announcing the games.
You know, Jamie, people don't believe me when I tell them I once called a Scotland vs. Wales match in '63 in which there were 111 lineouts. It was truly a war of attrition up and down the touch lines. They reckon Wales used seven code words, and every one of them meant kick for touch.
