Big difference between 2nd round and top 5 picks.

I will never understand why y'all put so much stock into past games or common opponents. It's stupid.

How does nd barely survive against byu at home..? And they have no offense... And you expect nd to win against ou on the road?? What does it matter how bad nd beat shitty Mia.. I'd put much more stock into what's happening recently.. Nd had to go to ot at home to beat Stanford at home. Stanford lost to Washington.. We can play this game all day.

I'm not putting tremendous stock in it...which is why I said...fyi...here is a common opponent.

...and "if" ND has a better D...

We'll find out how good their D is Saturday.

because they opted to rest their starter and play two back up QBs and thus play very very conservative .. They knew that their defense was playing well and figured that would be enough ...

It was

Barely ... as I said earlier in this thread DO NOT use last weeks ND offense as any type of template for the OU game.

OK. What other offense that ND has faced is gonna come close to OU's?? This is a DIFFERENT level here. ON THE ROAD. Come on ZAM......... ND is gonna have issues.

Well when OU faced a good D, they didn't exactly set the world on fire. I think this game will look more like the OU/K-State game.

Not saying they won't score points...but I think people are talking extremes here...because OU whipped up on some cheese soft defenses like Texas.

ND can score points too against pathetic teams and is hard-nosed and mentally tough with quality players on D.

But people are acting like Kansas is rolling into Norman.

I just think ND will probably get tired eventually because of their offense but would be surprised if OU whips them.

I don't believe this... ND has been scary bad in a few games on OFFENSE, Purdue, Stanford, AND BYU. They need to play a PERFECT game On O to beat OU. YOU KNOW THIS.

Stanford

Has a pretty good D against non-spread teams...and you should know this. Disingenuous to say ND was bad...they scored more than USC did.

Intelligent analysis suggests that NDs offense is not as *bad* as some are suggesting. In terms of offensive efficiency, when controlling for the strength of their opponents, its actually one of the best offenses in the country.

On the other hand, NDs defense is actually slightly overrated because they have not played many elite offenses.

DO NOT go here..... Come on YOU KNOW better than that shite. LOOK You and I are about the only NON-PARTIAL players on this board. You know football as I do... BUT If This game was in South Bend I would give ND a great shot[as far as the BIG GAME theory] But this is in a different place .. I just don't like ND's chances.

Stanford has the best defense in the country when we control for opponents productivity. Bama is #2.

None of you dlinemen would start at LSU. One lb and one cb would start at LSU

Which CB for ND would start for LSU? Do you even know their names? Doubtful.

As for the DL, you are comparing apples to oranges. LSU recruits for a one-gap 4-3 defense, and the DEs are a little on the lighter, leaner side.

ND recruits for a two-gap 3-4 defense, much like Alabama. Big NT and long, jumbo DEs who can control 2 gaps.

It works both ways - not sure any of ND's DL would start at LSU. Then again, not sure any of LSU's DL would start at ND. They don't fit each other's scheme.

Between Mingo, Montgomery, downs, Johnson, Logan and ferguson...I don't agree. Mingo and Montgomery are projected top 10 and when the others come out, with the exception of downs, they'll be first rounders too. Our D-Line is the best in the country. I don't give a shite who you compare them to

Yes, we have the best DL in the country....for a 4-3 defense. Not for a 3-4 defense, which is what ND runs. Downs couldn't play NT in a 3-4 and handle the zero technique. Mingo and Montgomery could not play DE in a 3-4 and control 2 gaps against an OT.

Apples to oranges.

Edited to add size differences:

ND's DL (3-4) alignment:
NT: Louis Nix 6-3, 326
DE: Stephon Tuitt 6-6, 303
DE: Lewis Moore 6-4, 306

LSU's DL (4-3):
DT: Freak 6-3, 294
DT: Downs 6-1, 287
DE: Mingo 6-5, 240
DE: Montgomery 6-4, 260

Alabama recruits a similar profile for its DL as ND does. LSU's is completely different from both. C'mon people, if you don't understand this, then you don't know enough about either team.

The #5 ranking is more lopsided than the 10 point spread.
