Mett vs McCarron - First 8 Games

Through first 8 games of career:
Mett - 1,419 yds, 57% completion, 7 TD, 4 INT
AJ - 1,664 yrds, 67% completion, 10 TD 3 INT
Both played 3 road games and 3 ranked opponents, although Mett played two Top 10 teams (at the time of the game) vs AJ playing zero.
Now give AJ credit, he has become a much better quarterback in his second year, but let's keep some perspective on Mett. The guy has dealt with 3/5ths of his line getting hurt and has had poor wide receiver play. AJ dealt with neither his first 8 games.
The key for Mett will be can he develop like AJ has. He certainly has the physical tools it is a matter of it "clicks" for him.
Stats....Does a Ranter good.

It will give me a sad

let's hope a change at OC is what Mett needs.
AJ has benefitted greatly from their change.
not saying that mcelwain was garbage, bc he wasn't, but bama is throwing the ball downfield more effectively this season for sure.

I think a 15% better completion as well as almost 50% better TD+INT rate makes a huge difference in the offensive production.
But comparing different teams/support player/coaches /seasons doesn't do justice and that too with just a small sample set (adjusted from the beginning of the career start , where huge swings are expected)

Bama makes the Offense manageable for AJ
LSU doesn't have a plan on offense
Mett needs play action, dumping to RB's and high % throws to TE's....WHY we don't do this is beyond me.

bama utilizes their TE/HB very effectively, allowing for easy throws to leaking TE's lining up in the backfield, or in motion. i'd say that's a way to get your qb into rhythm and confident.

So you're saying that AJ had more yards, better completion %, more touchdowns, and less interceptions...Ok cool
j/k

Are you expecting a change at OC?

I thought I was the only one who was wondering why we dont use play action. It would help our recievers get open cause right now they are no where near open.

bigger difference is game planning and play calling. Bama is way better.

no, probably not.

We don't throw to the TEs because they have to stay home and block as well Mett does not have the time for a wheel route or dump pass to a back that is usually a 4 or 5th read and we just don't give Mett time for that

AJ had what many believed to be the best OL in the country last year and this year.
Mett has a revolving door of an OL so far this year.
Imagine Bama without Warmack and Jones on the OL.

Add in even half of the dropped passes and Mett would have as good a completion percentage.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum can not come with a passing scheme that attacks holes in a defense.

The problem is not the overall passing stats, it's LSU's numbers on third down and in the red zone.

please spare me this nonsense. Mett is one of the worst qb’s in LSU history. at fla. 1-13 3rd conversions, at AM, 2-16 3rd conversions. when in the red zone, miles doesn’t let him throw, he just wont risk giving up a sure 3 points in lieu of the risk factor

This is a very intelligent post. Prepare to be crucified as this will be taken to mean you want WVU's offense, you hate defense, Les Miles, and don't know how bad it was under Archer/Hallman/Dinardo. Add to that you don't make $4M a year
