Mett was just way over hyped. Doesn't mean he won't come around and be a decent SEC level QB before the season is over. I expect him to have a good year next season. If he wouldn't have been so overhyped people wouldn't be viewing him so harshly. Next season I expect he will be playing at the level that JL and JJ were playing last season which means we will be in the title hunt. Hell, we are still in it this year dispite of the QB situation.

The QB has been the problem since Miles arrived at LSU besides Flynn who was here before Miles was hired. I have come to the conclusion that as long as Miles is here this will always be the problem. His philosophy is smash mouth football with a great defense. Play not to lose instead of playing to win. QB seems to never be his specialty in recruiting.
So which would you rather - to not lose, or to win?

I am a sunshine pumper....
honest answer is that everyone took Miles comment that we were going to throw more to mean we are going to try for 300+ pass yds/game. The egg is on our face because that wasn't what they were ever going to do. We don't have the personel right now to do that.
What we do have is a coaching staff that thought they were going to throw alot more short slants, curl, play-action, etc. and then Mett threw 2 red zone ints early in the season, we lost our All-SEC LT, couldn't figure out how to fill that void, lost our starting RB, had our other All-SEC tackle leave the team, and realized they had a choice.....try to pass more like they had originally intended with a make-shift OL, a QB who had thrown some red zone ints and fumbled when hit, or go back to fundamental football of running the ball and stopping the run and expecting the passing game to make enough plays on offense to get wins.
If it was my choice, I say win ugly....but there are some on this board that want to throw more regardless. Even though, the OL is still a ? (it is getting better though), the WR have difficulty getting separation, and our QB gets unsure of himself in the pocket.
I would rather an 11-2 season where we run the ball effectively versus a 9-4 season where we are throwing it all over the field.
Our QB situation is Mett is the starter, they are working with him to get better. I believe he will get better, but there is no magic button to push and it instantly happens, same way we are fixing the OL issues. No magic button, just find what works and stick with it.
Every good QB in the SEC goes through growing pains....it's part of college football.

we have thrown it more. jamarcus wasnt even throwing it 30 times a game. Only idiots would think a qb could throw for 300 yds every game. Only idiots thought we wouldnt run it with our nfl backs. Fans see a tall white pocket passer and think we have peyton manning.

Lee...well, he wasn't as good as we thought he would be
JJ...well, he wasn't as good as we thought he would be
Mett...well, he wasn't as good as we thought he would be
Anyone seeing a pattern here?
And just to contrast...
Booty, All-SEC
Rohan, All-SEC
Mauck, All-SEC
Russell, All-SEC
Randall, he was what we thought he would be
What was the primary differing variable in all the above? Anyone? Anyone?
I'll hang up and listen. I can't wait.

CLM has recruited well at all positions EXCEPT QB!! Jarrett Lee was supposed to be "All Everything" in TX but turned out to be below average; JJ, well....Mett, TBD
Wow. We have had 2 highly recruited QBs commit to LSU over the past 4 years to bail at the eleventh hour.
JL wasn't all-everything in texas and the guy was pretty good QB for LSU. IF you want to pin his RS freshman year on him becasue of the pick 6's you are a complete tard. We had the 12th rated defense in the SEC that year and he wasn't even the starter going into the season. Perilloux got axed shortly before the season for being an idiot, Hatch got knocked out against Auburn. Lee went from 3rd string to starter by the 4th week of the season and got to pop his cherry as a starting QB in the middle of SEC play.
JJ - Hate him or love him, the guy won games for LSU and won alot of them. Like all QBs, he had issues in his game, but he laid it out on the field and in the end, he helped us get to 13-0 last season.
Mett - Different style of QB. He is a J.Russell type QB. He will be good before he leaves. It's very difficult as a pocket-passer to have a revolving door as an OL. It messes with confidence and that is a big deal. Getting our OL set(and it seems we have since the SC game) will help Mett get more confident in his protection. That makes a world of difference to a QB, especially one that got knocked out in his first start. Give him time. Rarely anyone is great their first year.

You can't compare Saban to their boyfriend Miles, they immediately get offended and lose site of the point

Can't be Saban, because Russell and Flynn were All SEC under Miles. Must be Jimbo then.

Mett has a higher QB rating right now than Booty did his All SEC season.

JJ was a raw talent and a project, i actually didnt think he would ever play. Guy actually exceeded my expectations of him.
Flynn and Jamarcus played more years under miles. How can they progress under saban when he was coaching the dolphins?
If anything saban let a future first round draft pick ride the bench while we constantly struggled with marcus.

I think we were fine at QB until Perrilloux was kicked off the team. Seems like we have struggled since that time when Hatch, Lee and later Jefferson were thrown into the fray. Lee was never given time to develop and neither was Jefferson. Then "what's his name" went pro in baseball and it simply hasn't been pretty.
What is depressing is that Krags was brought in specifically to coach up QBs. This is his second year working with Mett and you would think Mett was better prepared.
I'm happy we're winning!

Well he fixed the turnovers last game. Now he just needs to work on that touch. Maybe the wind did hurt him, i dont know. but manziel over threw a few times on the deep ball also so i think it hurt more than helped.

I am not posting this to discredit anyone who strapped up for LSU football. This is to show how our expectations from the QB position have changed over the past decade. Winning is no longer good enough. We have to be better than our best to make everyone happy now and then I still think some would complain.
With regard to no improvement:
look at Jarret Lee (a pocket passer) -
first year starting...53.2% comp, with 14 tds and 16 ints.
last year starting...62.3% comp, with 14 tds and 3 ints
6-3 with <55% completion percentage would get boo'd out the stadium now. It was All-SEC back then.
Many here believe Davey was one of the best QBs of all-time at LSU. He was 10-3 with <60% completions.
At the start of the year, we complained they weren't throwing the ball down the field and we were unhappy with short passes. Then we complained that Mett was holding the ball too long waiting for downfield receivers. Now we finally get a game where the OL is holding and we take some shots down the field and we are unhappy.
Maybe the issue isn't with the team, it's with us and our unattainable expectations of a first year QB in the SEC during its prime.
Just a thought.
Also, I am not condoning the playcalling which I think has been sketchy this year. This is strictly about QB development and how the fanbase perceives our QB currently.

I'm not saying Mett is all American but drew brees wouldn't do shite with virtually his entire line injured.
All "posi/nega" stuff is lame as frick. You're a tiger fan or not. If you can't deal with someone else's opinion, then resorting to labels is juvenile.

No that would be the negaTigers stance. We have a QB and he is still improving despite some system issues and lack of receivers. And of course all the damn injuries.

I knew we still had Miles as coach, so I wasn't expecting Mett to save us. Anyone who couldn't realize that is blind. I don't care if we have a 5* QB, he won't be developed as well as others could do. He also will be put in a tough spot with a predictable offense that has a very conservative approach. DWI......I have, I know what to expect and I know Miles isn't leaving so I just try to be positive.

, the WR have difficulty getting separation
I blame this on the playcalling. Whenever they do get separation it's because the D was caught off guard because they didn't know what was coming. Most of the time they do. It's very predictable. I'm still surprised aTm never jumped one of those slant routes. They were all over it.
