A few people use owls, but not always at night. From what I understand, they are very difficult to train. They're not as food motivated as other raptors.
Fishing doesn't work for various reasons. For one, fishing raptors carry their food. There's no controlling where they'd go with it - across the lake, up in a tree etc. And once they've eaten, they aren't very interested in you. It's tough to get them to come to you at that point.

Teague
email bama@reuffsigns.com
My oldest brother has been hunting with birds and is an expert. He has a red tail and a goshawk right now. He does radio shows in KY about it. He is pretty much one of the top experts in the country. He would love to talk to you about it.

Got it. Haven't been on here over the weekend. Spent an unlucky day in the woods yesterday.
So, are you saying your brother wants to talk to me, or are you saying I should contact him because he's into this stuff?
He's probably a member on the NAFEX forums where most of us falconer's talk.

He is an expert on this stuff. He even brought the dang birds down to Gulf Shores during his vacation and hunted with them

Teague,
I saw that hawk again on Highway 11 this afternoon. Seems to be hanging around that area for a while. I don't know if you saw my post over a week ago but I found a dead hawk on side of the same highway about a mile away from where I've been seeing this hawk. I was worried it was this one.

I must have missed your post about the dead hawk. So far, there doesn't seem to be any takers on the lost hawk. It's very possible that he was lost someplace up north and has followed the migration south. Anyway, he must be doing ok if you keep seeing him in the same spot. I guess if nobody claims and catches him, he'll just take up where he left off.

Not all of them, but most of the fox squirrels do. The gray squirrels, of course, don't.

Santa is packing up my gopro right now, but here's a some shitty iphone videos that have not been edited at all.
First, a 2 minute video of my hawk attacking some leaves that he apparently saw some small rodent go into. I've never seen him so determined to uncover something before.
Crappy Video 1
And here he has hold of a big fox squirrel that was hiding in a hole in the top of this dead tree. It eventually got loose and ran to the next video.
Crappy Video 2
And here's a bit of the 20 minute game of cat and mouse that ensued in the top of this big tree. The squirrel eventually made a getaway.
Crappy Video 3
Shoddy video work, and nothing too exciting, but just thought I'd add it to the thread.
And here's the one he caught a little while before these videos. Of course I didn't have the camera ready then.

Must have flushed 10 rabbits today before he got this one. In his defense we were in some really thick stuff and he didn't get many good shots.

Very cool...keep them coming.

Been in a bit of a slump lately, mostly because I haven't hunted him enough. Also, my dad called me several times last week when I would have flown the bird wanting to go fishing. Since I almost never get to hunt or fish with him anymore, and he's getting on up in years, I went every time he called. It was nice to fish with him and I filled the freezer up with crappie.
But, anyway, we're back on track now. I took the new gopro with me today, but I'll be damned if the one time that I thought it was on and it wasn't was when he caught this rabbit. Maybe I'll do better with the camera tomorrow.

Can't seem to get the rabbits and squirrels to cooperate for the gopro. But it's going to happen. Here's another crappy cell phone photo from today until then.
