The "neck" case was too much, "suck that tiger dick" is just trashy.
But Ooh We Oh was perfectly fine with me, nothing wrong in saying you suck (funny how it was cancelled after the So Car game when the chant became "you suck Cocks"
And Tiger Rag was amazing, I sorely miss that one.

it makes the students look like a bunch of classless slobs.

but every time a new song comes out we have to work in "suck dick" in some form? that's pretty juvenile and pathetic if you ask me. it's like giggling when someone says a dirty word.
Yep ya hit it on the head "Gramps". Unfortunately a student's idea of what's clever and whitty isn't necessarily the rest of ours. Compounded by the mob mentality of all of them in one place, I'm surprised "suck dick" has crept into the National Anthem....YET.

I just don't get the mindset of continuing to do something you know is going to get a song taken away when 99% of the stadium INCLUDING THE TEAM loves the song. You'd think they'd be willing to chill out for that reason alone. There's other times to stage a sit in or some shite.

Honestly, all the students were in high school/ Jr high when tiger rag got banned. They need to bring it back. I'm sure less than 10% of students even remember the "assholes" part

I agree with the writer of the article, but don't think it will make a difference.
I was in Tiger Band when "Tiger Rag" was originally banned in 1987. The events that led to it were these: after a late TD in the Alabama game, the student section could clearly be heard over TV yelling the "A$$hole, A$$hole" cheer. The next Monday, the Morning Advocate printed a letter from an Ole Miss fan, who said that "Tiger Band led obscene cheers" at the previous weekend's Ole Miss game in Jackson. That Tuesday, we started preparing to play "Fight for LSU" after field goals and extra points.
Now, the fact that Tiger Band never instigated those cheers doesn't matter to those who hear them. The key fact is that it reflects poorly on Tiger Band, so Tiger Band has a higher vested interest in them ending. I was sitting in the SW corner for last year's Kentucky game, and clearly heard the Neck lyrics (and it wasn't just the student section yelling them). I wasn't surprised when it went away.
Some have argued that time will eliminate the cheers and that sometime in the future the songs will return. Nonsense. It was 13 years from when Tiger Rag was eliminated from scoring celebrations to when it was inserted in the pregame show to turn the band around to the East Upper Deck. The cheer returned soon after, and Tiger Rag went away again. These songs aren't coming back.
Tiger Band members spend hours perfecting their craft. They are a very professional band, which is very concerned about the traditions of the band being maintained at a high standard. Ever see Tiger Band removing their jackets in the stands like so many other bands (Georgia & Florida, for example)? Won't happen.
Unfortunately, many of our fans will never have the class that Tiger Band insists on as a minimum.

I wish the student section would come up with something trashy and vile for the canned music selections, so that they would stop that crap. But, in all honesty, the STTDB is trailer park trashy and makes those who yell it look like they just stepped out of a Honey Boo Boo episode.

I whole heartedly agree with this. I curse like a sailor, but the chants that people put in the songs ruin everything. Then they just bitch about the piped in music. When they are in fact the reason the piped in music exist. I remember the only piped in music was the calling baton rouge, and the pre-recorded band music played when the band was preparing for halftime and wasn't able to play.

Literally everyone has it wrong. The band doesn't care about the morality of children hearing the cheers. We don't care of the students do the cheers- you just can't do it to the songs. The SEC has rules against a band leading a vulgar cheer. If the students want to scream STTDB, go ahead- just not while the band is playing. The second something vulgar gets put to a song, we're not ALLOWED to play it because the school will be fined. Chant whatever you want, just not while we're playing. Those songs would still be played if people could keep their mouths shut for the duration of the song. Of course, the only reason anyone wants to hear Neck is so that they can yell STTDB

There are plenty of funny/clever college students. Apparently LSU's student section doesn't have many of them though (vocal ones at least). Those chants are flat out embarrassing. It's like an 8 year old saying doodie and giggling about it.
