He's only 18-2 over last 20 games and people are amazed that he wants to keep doing what has obviously worked in the past. I'd imagine there are quite a few coaches who would be more than happy to have Les' success.

Some of us would suggest that you might try to exploit your talents and strengths that you have.

I've been saying this since the Crowton era. Les runs this God for saken offense. For all of the pumpers screaming for a new OC, here's a reality check...LES CALLS THE SHOTS.
I recall in 1999 when Dinardo said "we don't need a so-called offensive genius to come in and run an offense we already know". That was his comment after being asked why he replaced Morris Watts with Bob McConnell, who I believe was the O line coach. Well, the O blew balls in '99 because...Dinardo didn't need any help running an offense according to him. Sounds stubbornly familiar.

Clearly this is the issue. It matters not how "brilliant" the game plan might be if it is not executed properly.
exactly correct. some posters seem to want us to change our offensive philosopy in the middle of a season. most of these people don't even know what a damn offensive philosophy is. we run a pro set and it enables the offense to do anything, including the "spread". we do not have a mobile quarterback. imo, if we changed to implement the multiple wr sets as a rule, mett will be in the hospital soon. plus, our wr's don't seem capable of this. our recruiting and training has been based on the pro set. i guess these posters want an offense based on trickery and deception. i don't think our team is experienced enough to successfully implement this. however, there are some plays that will help and we actually ran some of those in the last two games; they were not executed very well. but i expect our O will improve. mett is not an option read qb. i just can't imagine the penalties and the missed assignments by the ol and rb's if we try to implement a big change now; hell, these guys are doing it now. our OL is fricked BUT i think they will improve and gel before the year is done.

That is not the point. It's obvious we don't have the horses to run that system. You have to adjust to the personnel you have. Anything else is just insanity.

Piss poor execution in our passing game is the only thing holding us back. The plays are well designed. WR are getting open. It was the same in the MNC game. JJ just couldn't hit the wide open players and our O-line blew assignments left and right. This year Mett has been pretty accurate but wr aren't catching the balls and the line, again, is missing assignments.
I don't know why people think LSU has more talent than UF, UGA, USC, Bama, etc? Check out the recruiting rankings the last few years. Unless you think there is a bias against our recruits we are not the most talented.

If Lsu doesn't change some things up, the fans and players will be looking at an 8-4 record and a goofy eccentric coach that uses big words.

Uh, worked in the past. Have you seen our offense the last 4 years????? We win in spite of our offense...

So what makes anyone believe we would be better off offensively by taking up some new scheme with the same execution we're seeing now? We're playing sloppy. Clean it up, and it's a non-issue.

That's why I have no confidence going forward. All the greats evolve. They don't continue to run the same exact offense for a decade thinking it will work. They recognize where their strengths are and call plays according to those strengths. A different offense has to be called for a weak offensive line as compared to a strong one. Miles will not change it though. Or at least I don't have faith that he will. Now if he is trolling us all and comes out against SC running a Spread Offense the entire game, I will gladly eat crow.
In addition to this, one of the biggest concerns I have about Miles and LSU's offense is that every game seems to be utlizing 100% of the playbook with no team-specific preparation or gameplan.
Most HC's and OC's have an offense that consists of 15-20 run plays with variations depending on formation, and 50-75 pass plays varying on type of offense and how many variations they depeding on formation.
For any given game, most coaches and OC's will take their playbook with approx. 80-100 plays and whittle it down to 40 or so depending on what plays will be the most successful against the opponent for that week. They then practice only those specific plays against the scout team.
You will never see an OC use his entire playbook against an opponent because a good OC and HC knows that not every play can be effective against every opponent.
I have no reason to believe this process occurs with LSU's game preparation.

So this has been an execution issue for 4 years? That "cleaning it up" will ensure that we move the ball on a cosistent basis?

I don't know if Miles calls all the shots are not.Based on comments on this board, seems that most think Miles calls all plays. However, I found a statement from his press conference on South Carolina interesting. He said,"we went to the pass twice in that series that if I recall, I would have done different."That statement sounds like someone else made the calls when we were on the goal line just before half time and had to settle for the field goal.

If we're blocking, that means we're opening up running lanes. If we're catching the football, then we're taking ourselves out of the third-and-long situations. So yes, we would be moving the football.
quote:We've had liabilities at QB the last four years. I think Mett will turn out a little more effective once the game slows down for him.
So this has been an execution issue for 4 years?

Youre flaming, that is not a direct quote about "offensive philosophy". Read the article people...

He will blame any deficiency on lack of execution by the players
Let me help you out real quick.
Follow along.
1) Dropping a pass
2) Fumbling the football
3) Throwing an INT
4) Missing a blocking assingnment
5) Fielding a punt inside the 10
6) Not running right rout
7) Not making the right check of at the LOS
8) Illegal procedure
WHich of the above during real game time does the coach (*any coach) have control over??
Id be willing to bet anyone here that everyone of those things I listed are practiced and harped upon DAILY since day one...
At some point guys, these players have to step the frick up and make plays.
Thats all it is to it.

Miles never takes any responsibility for the performance of the offense. Never has.

1) Dropping a pass
Sometimes physcial error. Sometimes mental error. But you would be surprised how much coaching can improve catching. I'm sure they work on this in practice (or will be at least).
quote:
2) Fumbling the football
Same as above.
quote:
3) Throwing an INT
Depends how the INT is thrown. Was it a poor read? Throwing into coverage?
Or was it thrown to high? Inaccurately?
The former problems are coaching-based and addressed in practice/off-season. Not in-game.
quote:
4) Missing a blocking assingnment
Most times this is coaching. Repetition, repetition, repetition against the fronts the OL is expecting to see that week helps make sure this doesn't happen as frequently.
quote:
5) Fielding a punt inside the 10
Umm. That's 100% coaching. If you don't want your PR fielding a punt inside the 10, then maybe that should be communicated to him at some point.
quote:
6) Not running right rout
Coaching. See missing blocking assignments above.
quote:
7) Not making the right check of at the LOS
Coaching.
quote:
8) Illegal procedure
100% coaching. Never blame players for illegal procedure unless they're going full retard for some reason.
