He does plenty to promote the local restaurants on his show.
It's his job...

i think i'll let y'all discuss this deep dark phenomena without me...

You understand that the force of his personality has something to do with the success of the show, right?

I'm sure that's how it started, but I'm also willing to bet he has some degree of creative control, especially for the last several years.

Pretty much yes

In no, way, shape, or form is that really Guy's fault. People grow up learning terrible eating habits from their parents and peers, not Guy Fieri. Give me a break. Stop pointing the finger at a guy making his money by promoting local places for Food Network and pleasing people who want ridiculously unhealthy food. This is like blaming McDonald's for someone being fat.

me thinks we've been trolled..

Wow neat. A troll makes a troll thread and gets it to 5 pages. That's a successful troll job. Well done.
I'm not clear if the issue is Guy vs Bourdain or just a hate for Guy. I've fallen asleep watching that boring arrogant arse Bourdain. Guy actually entertains me and my family.
So basically frick you and your fricking opinion phan.

Oh, it's what they want alright. I use to eat really unhealthy myself, and then I started to really feel the effects of it. I changed my eating habits. I quit drinking soda. Quit smoking. I cut back on carbs and started eating more fruits and veggies, along with becoming physically active. I prepare most of my meals. I feel great now, but I know what it's like to eat like shite, so I don't feel the need to be a giant hypocrite. I'm sure you have bad eating habits at one point and time, and you should probably just shut the frick up.

If you turn on the episode right now he is showing people who travel around the country just to eat at the places he's had on the show.
How does that not translate into helping mom and pop?
Regardless if he, a viewer, some producer picked it.

It's sort of the equivalent of a clip show for a sitcom.

This is possibly one of the dumbest things I've read here.
I suppose the Food Network, Cooking Channel, Besh's cooking show etc should be removed from view because the subject matter upsets you for the ridiculous reasons above. Downright silliness.
Ole Geauxt, I think this is another occasion for you to express your "the c is silent" routine.

I've heard he's a huge prick in RL.

I do love that show too. Not a big fan of the host though.

I read a Maxim article a while back about Guy, author loved him. I was surprised that a rag as snarky as Maxim would give Guy any props.

Guy is LCD entertainment, the larry the cable guy of the food world. Fitting that he'd be a big hit on TD

I forget where I read it. I think it was on the OT. Some thread about "celebrities you've met in real life" or something like that.
I know, don't believe everything you read but he does seem sort of pompous. Seems like he thinks he knows everything.
Posted on 10/9/12 at 12:48 am to la_birdman
He might be a jerk IRL, but I like the show.
Posted on 10/9/12 at 5:37 am to Ole Geauxt
You think? I read this thing when it got started and realized the only point was a profound dis-like for the man, the troll just happened to find an article that expressed his own feelings so he cited it as authority rather than writing his own hit piece. The troll needs to get a F'ing life or commit suicide.

I never said the show didn't help, although that's debatable. I said guy shouldn't be propped up as some hero for being the host.
Anyway this thread was about his ridiculous restaurant not his obvious douchey ways
