I was thinking the same thing. Teams look at and notice that we don't utilize our TEs at all in the pass game. Mett is a green QB and that 6'"5 240 something Jacobs could be just what we need to spread the coverage out. That one pass to Clement he faked to the rb, pumped to a wr then threw downfield to Clement. We need to utilize the TE's more to loosen up the damn D.

I think miles is OK. Think he needs to get rid of a lot of offensive staff and replace with nationally known coaches. That have the stats to back up their coaching abilities. Was a mistake to put stud as OC when that dude got sick. Should have went nationally and hire a competent OC.

Most of you Negatigers don't remember the Auburn game where Lyn Amadee, offensive co, had Booty throwing 5 interceptions across the middle that were returned for touchdowns!

2008 and alot of pick 6s that cost us games. That's the last time we actually let a QB try to sling it. Since then we went to a power run game and the record has gotten better each year.

I think we have to ask could've we have improved even more had we continued let the QB sling it some? The '08 D (Malleveto) hurt as much if not more than the ints.

It was Jamie Howard not Booty. But our offensive problem has been going on for about 7 years. If you look at the OFF rankings it seems like we rank 90th or worse every year. We used to blame it on Crowton. Now who do we blame it on?

One thing for everyone to remember - in football you play 4 qtrs. Always have. LSU's strength is depth - for 4 qtrs at RB. So, runs btw tackles in 1st quarter wear down teams for the 4th qtr. Always have. Always will. Especially if you are putting in fresh legs to run the ball in the 3rd and 4th qtr. This is why LSU record when leading at half time is so wonderful.

What is happening this year?

7 fumbles in two games.

Lots of dropped passess.

Correct the fumbles and drops and LSU is a better team than they have shown the last two weeks.

Only other comment I would make is about offensive line chemistry. It takes time to gell up front and they were on their 3rd combo in 3 weeks last night.

why we have this phobia it seems of throwing the ball acoss the middle of the field... Between numbers/hashes.
You know, let a guy catch while he's running full stride..if you've paid attention so far this year I'd be willing to bet anyone here that 80% of the throws we make are curls/out patterns to the sideline.

I watched college fb final and it seems to me we are the only school in division 1 tha has an issue with this.
Please someone help me understand.

THIS +100000000000000. The two times we threw in the middle out of play action its accounted for a 20 something yard pickup and a TD.

Dude our offense is playing like it's spring practice. Do you understand that we are going to FLORIDA!!! They are hungry and mad from getting whipped last year.

Unless Miles does the best coaching job in his career this week we get beat by 2 td's maybe more.

I mean am I the only person that watches all these other teams zip it around all over the field???
For sucks sake,, it's not that hard

Exactly. I watch West Virginia throw 5 wr sets out there, then watch our team run 1 receiver routes lol. It's embarassing. If Texas Tech and Baylor run fun offenses and score a ton of points, why can't and LSU team with more talent do it? What about all the teams that spread it out with freshman qb's and score a ton of points? Yet LSU qb's always look confused. Why does it not frustrate every single LSU fan to see freaking Towson sitting on our simple routes that our wr's run?

Not sure if it was said in the 4 pages of this thread already, but in football the old adage rings true every single time:

"You are never as good or as bad as you think you are."

Our o line is soft. Turnovers and penalties are the result of poor preparation.

Yes we do. That's how we know the offense sucks. Other teams seem to run decent over the middle routes. Why is it so fricking hard for LSU?

I think this is true.
Also, when you have a team like LSU, what things will lose a game for you more than anything else? Turnovers, and emotion/momentum.

Playing in such a way as to make these things less likely just wears down other teams. It isn't necessarily fun to watch but leaves few opportunities for the opponent to swing games with big turnovers. And so far, LSU is good enough to win that way. Last two weeks, we did not win by expected margins - due largely to turnovers and emotion. Why increase the odds of that?

And yes, other teams get young QBs and sling it around. But which of those teams is under pressure to win EVERY game EVERY year? A 4 interception game and a loss once or twice in a year doesn't really matter.

I'm not saying it is fun to watch, or even that I know for certain that's what LM is doing. But it does actually explain what we see week in and week out, and also the results we get.

We have the personell to win games simply by outlasting other teams, as long as we don't turn it over. And that is what we do.

Makes more sense to me than the idea that a guy who turned Okie State into a legit team, coached in the NFL, and has maintained LSU at the top of the NCAA heap is less knowledgeable about football matters than the typical rantard.

7th Ward, etc, -- guys that coach,etc-- what do you think?

I'm ok with conservative approaches but that doesn't mean we don't take advantage of every opportunity. Consider two looks, one back and one forward.

Back: last year there were ample opportunities to get Mett PT (mcuh needed). Instead, those opportunities were spent on getting JJ back up to speed. IMO, what should've happened is that we should have stayed with O of the first eight games and supplemented that with JJ (think the UF game). And Mett should've played almost every 4th qtr in its entirety (save Bama, WVU, Oregon, State).

Forward: if I'm not mistaken only two seasons since '00 has a single QB started every game and finished the season uninjured (Mauck in '03 and JaMarcus in '06). Hence, the odds are not favorbable that Mett will this year (certainly hope he does). So you would think there would have been a priority on gettting Rivers as much PT as possible in out 5-game pre-season. Instead, he's thrown one pass. These were opportunities to get Rivers a lot of PT and somewhere he's likely to get called on.

I don't think coaches like to worry too much about "next season", at least not as much as fans.

As far as last year, I tend to think that LM though that a QB who would run and take sacks rather than throw INTs was the ket to beating Bama. Then, the first game reinforced that. Remember, the only QBs to have beat Bama in the couple of years before where mobile QBs, not pocket passers.

So,if that was the case, it then would make sense why he stuck with JJ through thick and thin the rest of the year. Trying to get him as good as he could be for the NC game, thinking that was going to be the key. That left no time for Mett, and "next year" was not as important as the current season.

Bottom line is that I think we are better than anyone not named Bama as long as we win the TO battle. This year, even with the boring offense, we are turning it over and that's why we look bad.

I get what you are saying, but IMO LSU is better than this and shouldn't cut themselves short by trying to just "outlast" their opponents.
