Problem Spooling Spinning Reel - Need OB Help

I just loaded some 12# Berkeley onto my spinning reel. I thought I did it correctly but I just went out to the yard to cast it, and when I cast, I am getting a lot of backlash and twists. Is this because I spooled it wrong or is there not enough weight? I have a 3/0 EWG, 1/4 split shot weight, and worm. Someone help.

I would say you spooled it too loosely.

you might have wound it too tight....also if you are retrieving in the yard maybe it isn't putting as much tension on the line as if it was in the water?

You need to have tension on the the spool holding the line.

Spray some silicone on spool. When you leave dock, drop about half your line behind boat while running and give it a minute or two. Retreive and this should eliminate alot of the twists. Manually flipping bail after cast helps out too.

Spooled it wrong.
Was your reel on the rod when you spooled it up or off?
Pay attention to the line when spooling and make sure it isn't looping as it comes off the spool if it is then flip the spool over. Also, like others have said make sure you put some tension on the line as you spool up.

There is some good advice but first what size reel do you have? You may be putting to heavy a line on it. Rule is. If your reel turns clockwise as you look at it make sure the line is coming off the spool counterclockwise laying flat on the floor. Works every time. Letting it out behind the boat with nothing on it will definitely straighten it out though.

It needs to come off of a flat spool counter-clockwise.
