Check out the extremely poor routes that were run on the play where Mett was sacked and fumbled. This play was either poorly designed or executed.

We have at least two receivers running to the SAME SPOT!

The protection was there, but the receivers failed to get separation and ran to the same spot. That's on them.

except for that part where mett was about to get raped by a linebacker while our lineman is taking a breather on the ground.

This still doesn't really prove anything other than that we didn't get to see anything develop since he he tucked it and tried to squeeze out of there before he got prison raped in the back field.

lol Josh Doyrowisotycksdf looks like he usually does in that picture.

His cut block was terrible.

I'm a self-acclaimed 'clueless' on the OL schemes but the other thing that stands out from the photo is that AU rushed 3. We have JD iso'd on Lemonier and 3 on 1 on the right side. Just seems like a misappropriate use of resources.

Mett was looking the other way and if I remember right, the announcers said because of Josh's cut block, it looked like it should have been a quick pass to the left.

It's a 5 WR set with Mett alone in the backfield. He really should have a ticker in his head. It was supposed to be a quick pass. It wasn't there or the WR messed up, but Mett needs to be able to protect the football better.

It was a short route on the near side that got jumped, hence the failed cut-block. The far side routes were ghosts, or epic fail/misread by the wr's. Still bad design, and couldn't tell if there was an outlet/second choice. I hope it just was a bad design, and not his only option.

Eric Reid's tackling on that sequence was horrendous.

FIRE WILSON

eta: And it looks like Clement is standing there while Jarvis and running toward the sideline, therefore not bad route running. Thread is stupid

at 1:09, more like 1:08.5
He looks at his right side options. All 3 receivers are engaged with blockers and the "cut block" fail has begun.

At 1:07, about one and a half seconds later, he's alerady looked over to his right side options.

This entire play is the result of a good defensive playcall and a good attack by a badass linebacker. Plain and simple. He went through his progressions, nothing was there and he took a sack instead of throwing it away.

His only mistake was not holding on to the ball good enough. Thats all.

Landry is open and mett likely would've saw him if he didn't have to worry about 55 about to decleat him

JJ would have spun and avoided the sack for 20 yards rushing

Look at Lael Collins at Guard completely owning his man one-on-one. I can see why Les likes Collins at left guard. He's a dominant force there.

Auburn had the right defense called for LSU's play, and Mettenberger made a good decision not to try and throw to the hot receiver. Mettenberger could have stepped up in the pocket and bought time to look for another receiver, but he didn't. Taking the sack, and being forced to punt, would have been an acceptable result given the way LSU's special teams and defense were performing. Not securing the football while being sacked was the mistake that LSU could not afford.
