Horrible WR routes on 2nd Mettenberger fumble

Check out the extremely poor routes that were run on the play where Mett was sacked and fumbled. This play was either poorly designed or executed.
We have at least two receivers running to the SAME SPOT!
The protection was there, but the receivers failed to get separation and ran to the same spot. That's on them.

Max will love that picture.

except for that part where mett was about to get raped by a linebacker while our lineman is taking a breather on the ground.
This still doesn't really prove anything other than that we didn't get to see anything develop since he he tucked it and tried to squeeze out of there before he got prison raped in the back field.

lol Josh Doyrowisotycksdf looks like he usually does in that picture.
His cut block was terrible.

I'm a self-acclaimed 'clueless' on the OL schemes but the other thing that stands out from the photo is that AU rushed 3. We have JD iso'd on Lemonier and 3 on 1 on the right side. Just seems like a misappropriate use of resources.

Mett was looking the other way and if I remember right, the announcers said because of Josh's cut block, it looked like it should have been a quick pass to the left.

Also see 68 on the ground.

It's a 5 WR set with Mett alone in the backfield. He really should have a ticker in his head. It was supposed to be a quick pass. It wasn't there or the WR messed up, but Mett needs to be able to protect the football better.

This is also true

I'd like to see the left side of the field...that's why Josh D was cutting the DE. Suppose to be something quick.

again. Landry is open. Mett looking left, Landry open on right out pattern looks like

well, was 3rd and 4, so that pass has to come out of his hand quickly, in anticipation of receiving some pressure.
He held the ball too long, regardless of Josh D.'s terrible block.
It should have been three steps BOOM ball out of his hands to J. Landry for a 5 yd gain.

It was a short route on the near side that got jumped, hence the failed cut-block. The far side routes were ghosts, or epic fail/misread by the wr's. Still bad design, and couldn't tell if there was an outlet/second choice. I hope it just was a bad design, and not his only option.

It looks like it should have been a quick out to Landry on the right. Mett decided not to throw it for whatever reason, maybe because the TE was too close to the receiver.

All I see is Dworaczyk getting beasted in a 5 on 3 scenario.

Eric Reid's tackling on that sequence was horrendous.

although poorly executed, that is where you end up on a cut block...

Except for the fact that it was designed to be a 3 step BOOM to the left side of the field.
You're drawing conclusions based on information no one had when the play was called, ball was snapped or drop back was made.
In hindsight, had he known he'd have a quick out to the right before he snapped the ball, sure, why not.
You're taking a lot of credit away from a good defensive playcall and putting too much blame on LSU and Mett.
I could hindsight every single play of every game 3 seconds after the ball was snapped, take a screen shot of it and point out whats wrong with it. You're reaching.
