leaving your cars unlocked.
when I lived in an area of Bato9n Rouge with a loit of crime I left my doors unloicked.
reason why?
Nothing in the car was valuable, but a new window costs $175. So I'd rather them just open the door than smash the window, and rifle through it.
I had my window smashed for a car charger and a ball point pen before.

Along that line, my wife had been pretty lackadaisical about self-defense, and this situation shocker her into taking a lady beware class, learning to shoot, and getting a gun. I've already given her a basic training on using the guns we have.
This is the one thing about women I will NEVER understand.
They say they don't need to know how to shoot for self defense because they just wouldn't be able to kill someone. So basically what they're saying is that the life of some street scum thug who wants nothing more than to rape and beat them is more important than their own. Absolutely baffles me. "Well all I need is a tazer, or maybe pepper spray." So the guy who is cooked up on meth is gonna drop the second a little pepper spray hits him in the eye? There are stories of guys on hard drugs being shot over 10 times and not immediately dropping. As I said, baffling...
People always ask me too, "why do you carry everywhere if nothing has happened to you before?" Why do I need something to happen to me to find a reason to be prepared? I would basically just be applying a band aid to something that has already happened.
Sorry... rant over. Not trying to get off topic. I just know that in my home in the future, every female, be it a wife or daughter, will know how to shoot, and shoot well.
Hopefully your wife will take it seriously and not decide she doesn't need a gun in a year or two if nothing happens.
Again, glad you and your family are all ok and thank you for taking my earlier post to heart. I would hate to see an OB baller behind bars for making a tough mistake.

Read it all. Wow.
Had a similiar failure on my end last yr.... Left truck unlocke n my neighborhood, had a 75 yr old pearl handled pistol stolen. One of my personal favorite material items. I have beat myself up about it almost daily.

Not trying to be a dick but theft is only one of a few reasons firearms shouldn't be left unsecured in vehicle or home.

What neighborhood was this? I live in Forest Brook and always leave my cars/house locked up tight but I'm curious if I need to be more on alert.

My wife is terrible about locking our home and auto doors. Pisses me the frick off! The first week we moved into our current home, someone stole her GPS out of her car, and the bitch still forgets to lock her car!
After the second or third time she left my truck unlocked overnight after using it, I told her she could no longer use my truck. Our door locks, she forgets all the time when I'm home. She swears that she always remembers to lock them when I'm offshore, but I know she's full of shite.
I don't know what it's going to take besides a home invasion to convince her to take this shite seriously.

Wow that's pretty scary. But am I the only one who has never heard of anyone doing this, ever:
What do you possibly gain by not bringing your keys inside? If the robber has your keys, I hope you have gotten your locks changed by now.

My neighbor came over this afternoon and said his house (off Bluebonnet) was broken into between him leaving at 7:45 AM this morning and when Terminex showed up at 10 and found his door pried open. Flat screen TV, jewelry and booze grabbed. Sherriff said his house, one in Iberville Terrace and one further in Highland Rd. all hit this morning, same MO.
Ever since they opened the substation at Gardere and Burbank, the crime in our 'hood has shot up. Like roaches flushed out and landing elsewhere.

Glad you are ok.
I keep a extra lock on my bedroom door that makes a distinct noise.
If I ever hear it, in seconds I'm locked and loaded.
