as much as I like to see a Cowboy go flying like that, maybe it was because Tate appears to have crouched then sprung off his feet into the block. At the angle he had, he could have accomplished the same thing (protecting the QB) with a more glancing blow that would STILL have taken him down but would have looked cleaner.

I came into this thread expecting to be angry with the fine. But after seeing the hit, I can see that the receiver definitely "launched" himself into the hit. He started low and came upwards under the chin.

Also, realizing that it was a wide receiver that was fined, I don't feel bad for him. The wide receivers and quarterbacks are so protected now-a-days, there would have been 8 flags on the field if that was a safety hitting a "defenseless receiver".

without a doubt. And I'm not one to complain about hitting defenseless people and I'm usually on the side of "This is pussification of the league" etc....but the bottom line is this gets called on the other side of the ball all the time, so I believe the defense is entitled to the same treatment when it's in reverse. With that being said, keep in mind that during the game this particular hit went unpunished and instead Dallas had a fricking 15 yd penalty tacked on because our other LB barely pushed the runner out of bounds. It can be argued that this single play killed any chance of Dallas winning this game.

The NFL would have had James Harrison incarcerated if he hit somebody like that.

Yep. I hate the rule, but it's gotta be called both ways.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked about the block Monday.

"I don't think he could have done it any cleaner," Carroll said. "It was very physical, but he didn't hit the guy in the head and he didn't hit him with his helmet, and he tried to not."

was Pete Carroll watching this play with his eyes closed?

not sure if trolling, but we overcame that and were rolling in the 2nd quarter. When this play happened we were down by 13 and about to get the ball back. Instead they got 15 yards deeper in our territory and went on to put in the dagger. And Sean Lee was hurt on that play and missed about 4 plays which gave Seattle another huge advantage.

anyway, if we got a stop in that series, Romo rallying from a 13 point deficit late in the 3rd quarter is very doable. But being down 20 with zero momentum is unforgiving.

I'm a cowboys fan, and so I know that when the game starts like that, it's over. You must have recently become a fan because they have struggled against Seattle over the years.

Seattle is death valley for Dallas.

As far as the hit, he obviously ducked and led with his helmet or are some of you watching a different play than I'm seeing?

Yeah. This is true, I just started following them this year because of all their recent success.

ETA: and yeah, kind of like that Giants game 2 weeks ago. We started off so freaking unbelievably hot, that's the only way we ended up winning. Because of how perfect everyone came out of the gate.

well I for one, try to stop believing in all these preconceived misconceptions and "that our history dictates the future"...before that play, we clearly had a shot at winning. For the most part we went in at the half thinking we were taking over, pending a huge implosion. IMO this hit and entire play in general was that spark that incited the implosion.

But still I refuse to believe that some bad luck that happened 6 years ago played any part in this. And I can't stand when people imply that it did.

Yep...plus he left his feet to make the hit. That was dirty in itself.

When they called that fricking penalty on Carter on that play, that game was over right there. Dallas was creeping back in it until that fricking shite. There was a female side judge on Garrett's side of the field. I wonder what he was saying to her.

They didn't fine him because he led with his helmet or anything, they fined him for hitting a defenseless player. Chasing down a QB he was about to hit is not defenseless IMO. Not Golden Tate's fault he wasn't looking while trying to make a tackle.

It really depends on the player/team as far as this opinion goes imo.

Tate/Notre Dame
Seahawks/Beat Saints, Pete Carroll etc

= Dirty

If it had been Devery Henderson playing for the Saints with the exact hit on the Cowboys it would have been clean as hell.

i could buy it if they said it was helmet to helmet, but damn.

motherfricking this...keep putting the nails in your own damn coffin NFL

Tate is 5'10" maybe 200. Lee is 6 2" or 3 and 240-250...how the hell else is he supposed to hit him save for coming under?
