re: Game of Thrones Re-Read/Re-Watch Project (Multiple Book Spoilers)

The schedule is slow, but thats because you need to allow time for thorough discussion (and crackpot over-analysis) of each section and how it relates to past and future sections. It's not just about the rereading.

The threads will likely each evolve for days on here. Dont rush them.

I'm all for the long re-read. Again it's not like we need to hurry and finish before Winds comes out. Great organized theories and discussion will come from the slow schedule.

Keep your schedule. I want to do this really bad, but I have a pile of other books I want to read. The long reread would allow me to work on those at the same time.

FWIW, my intention was also to accommodate those who are currently taking classes, working long hours, and etc. As well as those who may want to jump in after the first week or so.

I read really fast as well. Probably too fast for my own good, so I'm looking forward to the deliberate pace.

Since it seems the general consensus is to stick with the schedule let's do that. We can always pick things up if they're going too slow. The schedule isn't set in stone by any means.

I have never read the books slowly. It will probably be good for me. I haven't posted in an ASOIAF thread in a while. This should be fun.

I'm in the middle of ADwD and am enjoying it much more than AFfC. That was an absolute chore to get through.

Chicken or the egg thing really, but I've always gone for the Others bringing the Winter. Just seemed like one of their weapons to me.

From the prologue I am definitely of the opinion that the Others are bringing the cold. I don't think it is so much a temperature thing as it is a darkness/absence of life type of result of their presence.

Bran I
I caught on something here from the children's encounter with the direwolves. Bran and John have immediate connections with them whereas no mention is made of Robb, Rickon, or the two girls. This was in response to
Theon drawing his sword to kill the pups, starting to Summer.

Summer is already reacting to Bran's emotions moments after coming into contact with him.

Jon is the only one in the party who new Ghost was there. Not even Bran could sense him. So based off of this I came to two conclusions. Jon and Bran have the most power as far as Wargs go. All the children are specifically linked to their direwolves from the start. Each one was meant for a specific child, not just the albino Ghost.

Nothing really significant in the Catelynn I other than the mention of the weirwoods IMO. I was hoping for some mention of a feature of the weirwood in the godswood that would show that is where Bloodraven got his longbow, but no dice.

Daenerys I

I find it odd that Dany and Viserys remember Rhaegar in the Battle of the Trident as fighting for the woman he loved. The war was started because Bob's side thought Rhaegar stole Lyanna away and raped her. Why would two children, one who was not even born yet, remember it this way? My only guess is that Ser Willem Dary knew the truth of Rhaegar and Lyanna and told Viserys and Dany the story as they grew up.

Illyrio clearly doesn't think highly of Viserys from the beginning and IMO is antagonizing him from the start. I think this fits very nicely with an opinion from crackpot that he never intended Viserys to be king. And even that he set him up with the Dothraki because he knew he would not survive with his attitude. I'm still lost on what he intended for Dany though.

Last thing... When Dany is walking through Drogo's manse, there is mention of a mosaic depicting the Doom of Valyria. Yet we get no mention of what the damn thing is showing. Just thought that was kind of a dick thing for George to mention in the book that he doesn't spend 5 pages describing.
